A couple of years ago, I would have blindly recommended Deb Caletti's novels to anyone who asked. I even greatly liked her last publication, so I was excited for this novel and anticipated it for over a year. However, as soon as I started reading it, I realized painfully that it wasn't like anything I had expected. To be honest, I had to put down the book before I even got into the first few chapters. The character made trite and tired statements constantly, and the writing seemed immature and silly for an experienced writer like Caletti, whom I've loved for many years due to her rich and beautifully detailed descriptions. This novel seemed like it was done out of a different place than the others, like it was forced out to meet a deadline. I can't say I'm ever going to pick it up again, and I'll be wary of buying another one of her novels if it comes out the same way.
