Worked just like it was made for my old(over 2 years old) brother MFC-J485DW printer. I have read some reviews stating that these must be "fake" not real brother cartridges. IF "fake" they are D*** good ones!! The one I received was packaged as if going into space as are all the brother cartridges that I have ever bought. Installed same. My printer accepted without any issues. AS for "not filled all the way" as some have written well I mostly print photo's so number of sheets are not an indicator. I can write that I have printed 14 8X10 prints so far without hardly any loss of ink(per indicator), much as I usually use. SO far happy with purchase.

I am giving this item one star only because I have to in order to leave this review. I purchased three of these ink cartridges and NONE of them worked! I typically buy them st Office Depot but decided to give these a try because I had a heavy printing project and these were cheaper. Clearly, these are not genuine Brother ink cartridges although they are packaged in the same packaging as the ones I purchase at Office Depot. If only one of them failed to work, I could have given the seller a pass, but all three? Unacceptable! I won’t be ordering from this seller again. Back to Office Depot I go!

Extremely low yield, constantly replacing

These cartridges claim to get about 260 pages, but in my experience printing very low volume, I average about 15-20 pages per month. This cartridge literally has to be replaced every two months or the printer refuses to do anything. Does the ink simply evaporate or dry up when not in use? How can it yield so little? Same for the standard color cartridges. I don't print photos, just text documents that have colored text and the colors are almost a monthly replacement for the simple printing I do. Going to try the XL cartridges, and looks like other brands are a fraction of the cost with significantly higher yield reported by actual reviews.

What's up with this black ink cartridge, and with Amazon?

I bought two of these...one worked great, the other one didn't . My printer didn't even recognize it...like it had no ink to begin with. And now I can't get Amazon to replace it or exchange it for a new one, so I'm not sure how to handle this. HELP! I'm wary to buy more, since I go through black ink like water...

No detect error on brother MFC-J4420DW.

I admit it was at least six months it hasn't been used, but to use this cartridge I had to jump through hoops - first issue though was no programming of the chip on top. I got the old cartridge to work by putting tape over the window, but after removal and install of all cartridges had to do that to all of them, then had to pull the chip off the old and new yellow and swap them to get the new cartridge to work.

So now, the only one that will show a true ink level will be yellow. The other two color cartridges are LC205's, the black was (working) a LC207, and this yellow an LC201 because I wanted the others that were low but not spent to have approximately the same capacity when they all need to be replaced.

Maybe after some use I can pull off the tape, but likely will just have to go by print quality as a guide when to replace.

So, why the title - because I'm not new to Amazon or reviews, there's almost never a ton of 1 star reviews that don't have vendor response, and almost all the bad reviews say things like no response or help from Amazon, less than full ink, etc. Looks like the vendor is selling knock-offs and ignoring customers who get bad ones...

Anyway, if you get a bad one, you can set the printer up for grey-scale, or tape the old cartridge window and keep printing - so I hope this review isn't completely worthless.

I purchased this product [Brother Genuine Standard Yield Black Ink Cartridge, LC201BK] to replace the old cartridge I had, but when I tried it, it did not work. After trying different things on "how to make your new cartridge work" I figured out that the chip that came with it was a dud. The way I found out was--I took my previous ink cartridge's chip and placed it into the new ink cartridge--and voila, it worked... I am very disappointed in Brother. Not because their product is bad (I would purchase a Brother printer over others), but because evidently, not all of their products function properly. In the end, it works fine because I switched out the chip, but I should not have had to do this in the first place. Therefore, I gave it a 1 star rating.

Again, to reiterate my thoughts on this: I am very disappointed. For my future purchases, if I choose to stick to Brother, I will keep my "Old" chip that works.

My husband and I print only occasionally and a pretty minimal amount at that -- maybe up to 3 pages at a time if that much. I purchased this black ink cartridge as well as the 3-pack color cartridges in May 2018. Of course, I haven't counted how many pages we've actually printed, but I'm almost certain we haven't reached 100 pages. Still, I keep getting alerts that the ink cartridges are low. After reading other customers' reviews, I'm wondering if I should even bother using the genuine item when I order new cartridges.

Works Great and the Ink Is still Going after 2 Months of Use

I bought an all in Brother Printer without researching ink options before realizing that in my area its hard to find it local. The big Box Electronic Stores do not carry the ink and the office stores that do carry mark the price $20 or more higher than Amazon.

After researching ink options for my printer I found thatthis product had the best reviews. I typically buy store brand refills or off brands but lately I found this to be a bad idea. You may get the same amount of ink at a cheaper price but the ink dries up faster, the system may not read the generic products, or the cartridge may not fit. With this ink cartridge I found a lot of bad reviews tucked in with the good ones. The bad reviews were enough to make spend a little more and get this one.

For the brother ink cartridge everything is correct. The price is reasonable and the ink status still shows more than half full across all colors.

This Ink Cartridge will only work for those printers listed on the sales page. If your printer ink cartridge codes are not listed then do not buy it without checking with the manufacture.

Cartridges Are Dry, Do Not Last Three Months With Minimal Use

I purchased this replacement cartridge after using the last one that I bought in Staples for over a year. In less than two months ago, it's already dried up. I print out documents less than 2x a week on average. I am so annoyed. This is absolutely a rip-off and I would not buy from this seller again.

With every printer I've ever had for home use I've preferred the brand name ink for said printer over any generic brand, And I've always regretted trying a generic brand printer ink for whatever brand printer I've had. My personal rule for years has been"...no generic brand ink...". I recently broke my own rule and as always, regretted my decision. Lesson finally learned. This is the second Brother brand printer I've owned. My first was a black only laser printer; the current is a color ink jet printer. I've had No problems ever with Brother brand ink and highly recommend it for any Brother brand printer.
