5.0 out of 5 starsMy first Dakota Cassidy book but not my last
Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2016
This was my first Dakota Cassidy book to buy and read. I picked it up and waited 4 months to read it. That will never happen again. This book is a paranormal comedy that had me laughing out loud and buying the second book as soon as I finished the first one. This book takes place mainly in Paris, Texas (but rewrites the town some). But it starts off i witches jail where Winnie and Zelda her best friend have both been for 9 months for abusing their powers. They get paroled to totally different places and have to complete tasks by Halloween or they take the chance of loosing their powers forever.

What got Winnie here? Well a whole mess of things ONE of which was burning down her boyfriend Ben's warehouse because he did not call her for 3 days after they slept together. It just so happened that he ended up being the top witch's nephew too. That was not a good thing. Wouldn't ya know the first person she sees when she gets to the town she is paroled to....Paris, Texas is no one other than that now ex-boyfriend BEN.

This book is fast paced and will have you zipping and zapping from here to there. You get to meet the cutest little witch Lola and you get to deal with BIC at the school and meet all the witches and some warlocks too. AND who knew cabbage patch dolls could talk???????

Come grab a copy today and get your read on.

2.0 out of 5 starsJust not that funny not for everyone
Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2016
This might seem harsh to some. Everyone seemed to rave about these books and this series. So, I took a chance to read. This was so ridiculous! I honestly rolled my eyes at the silliness and tackiness of it. I was at Chapter 2 and I honestly wanted to quit reading it! It was stupid at that point. I'm sorry...just not what I expected. To be honest I thought it was gonna be a lot like Michele Bardsley's Broken Heart series. Um no. Not even! There wasn't any real humor in this just quirky silliness that didnt do it for me. I did skip ahead to about Chapter 5 or 6. It did get better once the stupid cheesy lines stopped. I did end up finishing it because I paid 5 bucks for it.

What happened to Zelda? I dont see anything about her in the other books in this series. There wasn't a mention about her either at the end of this one. Maybe she's part of a different series and just not Paris? I dunno. Being convicted at being a magic abuser Winnie loathes where she has to serve out her probation. Which is in Ben's home with his cute troubled niece Lola. Ben being the nephew of Baba who is her jailer. Honestly, the same was weird and it kept getting changed and that so annoyed me. Anyways, Winnie had a relationship with him. Did it slow and right and after they did the horizontal tango he didnt call her for 3 days...in a female's world thats a no-no. So, naturally she thought he used her and she accidentally blew up his warehouse. He on the other hand was dealing with some things. He really should have told her in some way what had happened. He had a real good excuse for not calling. There was no way Winnie would know to talk to a temp to get his whereabouts. They both screwed the pooch in my opinion. Once it was all straightened out it was an ok read. I dont like it enough to read anymore of her stuff though. Sorry...just not that funny. I think its more light-hearted than anything. Not for 5 bucks anyways. If your looking for that this is what you want. If you want funny and quirky its not what you want. I personally dont recommend it. Lots of people liked it but I didnt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Paranormal mystery with some steamy romance

Overall liked this book, I would rate it 3.5. Likes: The mystery was suspenseful and the ending was a surprise. I liked the main characters, their conflicts, and how they grew beyond their flaws. I liked the non-main and antagonist characters as well. It had a cozy, fun and light reading feel. Dislikes: The book felt a little off - It had a very young adult feel yet was interspersed with a several pages of steamy sex. Was satisfied with the stand alone ending, but it seemed a little longer than it needed to be. Nice introduction of a best friend, assumed she would tie back into the main story.

This is such a cute and fun new series and I can't wait to continue on with it! This book is filled with the best MAGIC & WITCHERY that I have encountered in a long time. This story is a quick and light read but is easy to get lost in. The main character Winnie is a hilarious witch who just got 0ut of "witch prison" for setting her ex's warehouse on fire. As part of her parole she has to go to Paris Texas to basically repent and is found in a tough spot when the man she is running away from (said ex, whose warehouse she burnt down) is the person she has to stay with. How cute is that???

WHAT IS INCORPERATED IN THIS FUN AND MAGICAL BOOK
1. Hilarity (I laughed a lot)
2. Magic and Mayhem
3. Demon children... I mean they aren't really demons but they act like it!
4. REAL demons
5. A second chance romance
6. AND fun

For those who enjoy a crafty, witchcraft read than I strongly suggest giving this book a chance. I really adored it and will definitely be reading the rest of the series (which features all different characters).

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book

This book is a great read. Aside from Robyn Peterman, Dakota Cassidy has now become my favorite author when it comes to lighthearted paranormal romance.

So Witched at Birth is about Winnie Foster, a witch who had been jailed for nine months when she blew up her ex-boyfriend Ben's office building.

Baba Yaga, her ex-boyfriend's aunt and jailor, granted her and her best friend Zelda parole in exchange of separate community services.

Winnie ended up in Paris, Texas where - surprise, surprise! - Ben is currently residing too.

I love how this book is peppered with hilarious characters. From fashion-challenged Baba Yaga to creepy cabbage patch doll Icabod - there's never a dull moment in the story.

My favorite aspect though is Winnie's personal journey. From a narcissistic, self-serving witch, she turned into a caring, selfless person who wanted to make up for her past transgressions. Her character development was truly awesome.

For me, that - along with a smooth plot - is what makes a novel well-written. And Witched at Birth definitely is!

Just out of jail on parole after serving time for blowing up her then boyfriends warehouse, Winnie doesn't have much going for her---separated from her BFF (who was also in the clink), sent to the almost hotter-than-hell Paris TX, and given a job as a TA with 5 and 6 year olds, a craptastic pink junker of a car, and a talking Cabbage Patch doll AND not allowed to use her magick for personal gains, she doesn't think it could get much worse. Until she find out that her residence is a half-way house run by none-other than her ex-boyfriend. And she has to wear the 80's clothes give to her by the head of the Coven. Toss in an angry witch bent on taking over and some steamy romance, this one great read! As usual Dakota Cassidy delivers the humor, snark, suspense, and romance that we-her fans- have all come to know and love!

Winnie Foster is the spoiled witch who constantly uses her powers for personal gain. After she and her best friend get in trouble yet again, they are sentenced to witch prison. Upon release Winne and her bff are sent off to different places to complete their parole. Winnie’s sent off to Paris, but not the one in France. She’s shipped off to Paris, Texas with nothing but the clothes on her back. That’s not the only bad thing. She’s sent to live with the man who deserted her. The one she was dating that all of a sudden disappeared and never let her know why.
I absolutely enjoyed this story. Following Winnie from a self-absorbed witch to a woman who puts her own life on the line to protect others. This is a well written book with characters who actually mature and grow. Definitely, a book to read if you like witches, romance, and a dash of comedy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Queen of Snark's new series about the witches (and others) in Paris Texas isn't something you should miss if you enjoy a bit

Dakota has done it again. The Queen of Snark's new series about the witches (and others) in Paris Texas isn't something you should miss if you enjoy a bit of paranormal romance with lots of humor. The heroine's in the series seem jacked up beyond redemption as they leave "magic jail" but in the end they put on their big girl panties and face the error of their ways. Who doesn't love a reformed witch with a big heart?!

You couldn't pay me to be Winnie. I felt for her having to drive a douchemobile even though at first glimpse she seemed to be the shallowest witch on earth with few brains to spare. This story is truly about how women can overcome and rise above even when life isn't ideal from the beginning. With the paranormal learning to be normal in this book it's quite a fun approach that I think most readers will enjoy. I have to admit I was a bit lost at the beginning with the banter between Winnie and her equally shallow BFF but once Winnie lands in Paris things start to heat up in more ways than one. Ben the male lead is the type of guy you can take home to mom. If only Winnie and Ben can get their signals uncrossed and their stories straight. You'll have to read the book to find out if they do. No spoilers peeps!

Winnie has spent the last nine months in jail for blowing up a office building belonging to her boyfriend Ben. The pair dated for been dating for awhile, and after they finally sleep together he doesn't call her the next day. Winnie has anger management issues and tried calling him and going to his job, but she got no response so she got mad. Then, Ben's aunt basically tells her she doesn't want Winnie dating Ben and Winnie loses it and ka-boom! Winnie has been a problem child since the death of her mother when she was a little girl. But, now Winnie is up for parole and has to make a complete change by Halloween to stay out. This is a great story.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must read for paranormal junkies!

This book was a refreshing change from the same-story-different character name-flavor of the week books that abound lately. ( No disrespect is intended, as I DO read these books, and enjoy many of them!). But I treasure stories that I can't predict the ending of by the start of the 2nd chapter. This one kept me interested through the sample of book 2!
I wasn't sure I liked Winnie at the beginning. She seemed shallow, selfish and a bit crass. Set up! Without spoiling the read, let me say that I loved being along on her journey of self discovery. The only thing I wasn't satisfied with was the "big bad" character, there was a disconnect due to scanty lead up, and thin explanation after the reveal. Didn't ruin my enjoyment, just took me out of the story a little.
Overall, I loved this , and I am eagerly planing to devour the rest of the series.
