How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

5.0 out of 5 starsRead Book in 3 days

I became interested in this family after the Jenni Rivera Series. I wanted to hear Chiquis side of the story and man was this book interesting. I started it and couldn't stop reading. To know that this person went through these storms saddened me and it made me realize that even the rich and famous have dysfunction in their own families. The part that stood out the most is how this young lady was able to get past everything she endured and forgive those that caused her pain. That's something many of us need to learn to do. Forgiveness is important for our own soul.
Great book and I wish this young lady the best in life.
PS Made me think that her mom was not mentally stable at the time or maybe she was plain out exhausted and whatever else in her life that was going on caused her to believe someone else's trash to break up her family. I dont believe her daughter did this to her and I think Jenni was ultimately suffering from PTSD from all she endured with men and she didn't possess one ounce of trust, sadly even with her daughter. Life is short, don't stay mad...you might not have the chance to get past it.

I didn't really know about or like Chiquis that much before but after reading her story I was touched. She has been through a lot and even still remains warm hearted. The book made me cry several times but also showed me to be grateful for the little things in life.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Journey to Forgiveness
Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2021

The book was OK, but not amazing. I was really excited to hear Chiquis' side of the story, but most of what she wrote I already knew. However, her journey to forgiveness was worth reading. I know that some hardcore Jenni fans are upset by this book, but I really did not interpret her as insulting her mom; she praised her throughout the entire book. For my MA thesis, I wrote a series of vignettes on my father, and whenever he had to tell the truth about his father's cheating, abusive tendencies, or poor choices, he did exactly as Chiquis did which was to acknowledge the actual event, but then follow up with how proud he was of his dad. With that said, I do not believe that she is making up the stuff in this book. Honestly, I read this book because the series painted Jenni in such an unrealistic light and didn't admit to some of the situations that she placed on herself. The series got a lot of stuff wrong, and I do not say this because of Chiquis' book but because of the reality shows. For instance, the house in Compton looked a lot better in the series with the assumption that Jenni was making all of this money as a realtor, when in reality all of her kids admitted to being so poor that they were living off food stamps. There is nothing wrong with that, I am just noting the romanticism of the series. I liked this book for its rawness, and I am sure that Chiquis did exaggerate on a lot of the stuff in this book including her dreams and quotes, but that usually happens with first person narratives. I enjoy Jenni Rivera's music, but it has really floored me to how die hard her fans are, and how they would rip apart her own daughter as they have. From the series, this book, and the reality shows, it appears that Jenni was incredibly selfish, aggressive, and manipulative, but somehow those traits are always painted in a good light. The tweets are even proof of how she turned her fans against her daughter and allowed the whole world to make her want to commit suicide. If you read this book, you will have to come to it with an open mind and not someone who wants to rip apart La Diva's final enemy.

5.0 out of 5 stars There’s always two sides of the story.

This book is AMAZING. I feel for Chiquis and everything she had to go through. The hardest part was reading how her mother treated her as well as the rest of her family back in October of 2012 before Jenni’s passing. I am amazed at the strength that this women hold and how she was able to forgive and move past these problems. She is a warrior and I thank her for sharing her side of the story (which she didn’t have to do). I recommend all you haters to read her story because there is always to side of the story in every problem. XOXO!

I was not a fan of hers at first. I read her mom's book first and because of that I had to follow it up with this one. This poor girl, the way everything was left so undone, so many words left unspoken. For her to have found the courage to move on and forgive, without even being able to hear the words is amazing. Such a beautifully written book.

This book was painful. It is a reminder that we should never take for granted that there will be more time to "fix" things with the people that we love. Also, for the rest of us outsiders it is an important reminder that there are 2 sides to every story. Either way I read this book with an open mind & I am hopeful that this book gives some closure to Chiquis & her family. We will never know exactly what happened but in the grand scheme of things the important thing is that she loved her mom & vice versa. We all make mistakes & hopefully that mutual love is what Chiquis remembers when she thinks of her mom. God bless her & her family.

And if you are a fan of Jenni Rivera & her family I definitely recommend this book. It does address the rumors & tells Chiquis' version of everything. It is well written & shares her frustrations & sadness. I appreciated her sharing this vulnerable side with her fans.

After watching the Netflix series. I got just a bit more interested. Even though I have always been a fan of La Gran Señora music. Chiquis I can’t even begin to imagine what you went through. The courage you had and how u stood up to all of it with great courage and dignity. This book explains her life, and her courage. She makes you cry because you can’t help but feel her heart in your soul when you are reading it. It’s a great book. Don’t pass it by!!

Beautiful book. I could now understand why there was a misunderstanding and horrible rumors about Chiquis and Esteban. To be able to understand her point of view, you have to read the book. It's a heartbreaking but gives you an insight on the Rivera family. Throughout chapters of the book, I cried and cried. It must've been horrible to be in your shoes, Chiquis. This is a beautiful book.

This book is very touching. Chiquis opens up alot of her adversities, relationship with her mom, and SA she experienced in the hand of her dad and unknown woman. I had to take breaks because it was intense. Overall I recommend reading this book! So much love for Chiquis and Jenni Rivera
