Not Richard Russo at his best
Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2016
Richard Russo is, in my opinion, the finest American author writing today. I have read everything he has written and it all rates 5 stars, except his latest "Everybody's Fool." While I know and love the principal characters from prior works, I found their latest, perhaps last, escapades as they near the end of their lives, not just somewhat depressing (undoubtedly just as the author intended), but more than a little tiresome, as well as too improbable. The tiresomeness and improbability resulted in my loss of empathy for their travails and of interest in the story. The humor which has sparkled and crackled in his other works, which often caused me to laugh out loud, tended to fall a little flat here. I never thought I would be so critical of anything Russo has written, but perhaps enough is enough along this particular line. I still love you Richard and will still read everything you write.
