4.0 out of 5 starsThey left out the best part, heaven. Yet it is still a good movie
Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2015
I was hoping to see what I had read in the book, but the movie left out much of what is in the book. There is less than five minutes of heaven in the movie. The rest is about Don Piper's excruciating pain and turmoil after the experience of heaven. They left out the best part of the book, heaven but this seems to happen often when a book is made into a movie. I hate to say it but I must. Having read the book first I was to a point disappointed with the movie. If you haven't read the book I suggest you do so. It is a very uplifting book. The book and the movie are just to far apart. Don't misunderstand me there is much to like in this movie with regard to God's helping us through hard times. I just would have liked to have seen the part which is in the book about what Mr. Piper saw while he was in heaven for 90 minutes. NOTE: There is one thing this book and movie has given me. In all my many, many, years of law enforcement how many times have I been sent to an auto accident where often there would be one and some times several deaths. Never did I pray for the dead. The families that did not yet know of their loss I prayed for, but never the dead. After reading the book "90 Minutes in Heaven and seeing the movie I will at least pray not only for the families, but also for the dead. I have learned from this book and movie you never know what God has in mind. After all God does use his people to do His will. As a Christian I live and I learn. If for no other reason watch this movie and see how God can help you through the hardest of places. He will bring you from what seems like complete defeat to victory if you allow Him to do so.

I watched the movie after reading the book and it was just as good. I became an amputee 7 years ago and in that first year I read Don Piper's book and even contacted him to help me get through my pain and experience. I appreciate both him and his book and now the movie to help me with this new adventure in my life being an amputee. Thanks Don!

This was an amazing story, a true story, unfortunately it was less about Gods miracles and more about the pain, suffering, expenses , etc. I was thinking up lifting, believing and hope, but this movie concentrated on all negatives. Very disappointed.

It's an ok story but I thought the book was much more interesting. Depends what you're looking for I suppose, but if you're after a good description on nde's this isn't all that informative. Better off sticking with the docs like 'I Survived... Beyond and Back' and anything with Raymond Moody.
I am a near death experiencer and really struggled to find movies/books in popular culture about the subject after it happened. If that's you as well, check out Dr. George Ritchie, Michael Newton, Brian Weiss, Tricia Barker, Anita Moorjani, and of course Eban Alexander. Google and youtube IANDS and those names and you'll get plenty of good info to help you on your journey! Peace

2.0 out of 5 stars Read the Book

The 90 Minutes in Heaven movie left out the most important part of the book: the 90 Minutes in Heaven. Well, the slipped in at the end, briefly. The visual version doesn't do justice to the written version. The whole story is balanced on his up-front experience in heaven. Pretty underwhelming. Read the book. Hollywood distributors I'm sure influenced taking Christ and the holiness out, too, ruining this real-life account. They got much out of order, left out poignant details, and added some that weren't in the book. In the 90 minutes Don Piper was considered dead, busted and broken in his crushed car, he walked in heaven. Read the book, and especially if you've gone through a catastrophic injury or trauma. The movie left out so much that, if you really need inspiration, you'll will get more from the book. Our library had it.

3.0 out of 5 stars disappointed not more on heaven

There is not much on heaven in it, maybe 10 min.It is mostly about the man's healing from the terrible accident and what he went through.
I am glad the profit goes to charity. I was going to show it to my 7th grade RE class but not much shows heaven. "Heaven is for Real" was better and the students really liked that DVD as did I. For 90 Minutes in Heaven I may show them only the part on heaven rather than the entire movie as if I fast forward to 135 that is when heaven is shown on the DVD, For being in heaven 90 minutes, not much is told about it. It is amazing the man came back to life when the bystander stopped and prayed for him. I believe that bystander might have been a preacher. I read the book a few years ago and the book was like that too, not a whole lot about his memory of heaven. I am reading "Imagine Heaven" now by John Burke, a New York best seller. and it is a very vivid and good book on people who have out of body experiences.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another account of Jesus' reality
Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2020

Exciting story about Jesus' faithfulness. That there is a supernatural dimension to life is evident in many ways, but having accounts such as these helps to make it all the more real. Our world is becoming more and more certain of the lack of God even while more and more evidence comes back showing Jesus is who He says He is. As Jesus said many times, "let those who have ears to hear, hear." There is hope in Jesus like nothing this world can offer. His truth is for the moment our outer shell dies and our spirit leaves this dimension to see what else exists beyond our tiny minds comprehension. As well as the hope He is for this broken and hurting world and how sin affects us all. He came to set EVERY man, woman and child free from the dominion of darkness. This story is just one in many millions where we see Him working to bring life to our lives if we will just believe He is who He says He is. This is a story worth hearing (watching) and follow up by listening to interviews with tge real man (Youtube, etc) where his story continues as Jesus uses him to proclaim His story.

5.0 out of 5 stars One man's faith challenged

This is one of my favorite books and now is a favorite movie. I recall from the book that Rev. Piper had a great deal of pain from all of his injuries but I think seeing him in the hospital and everything he went through really brought home how awful the accident was and the toll it took on him and his family. This is a story of one man's faith challenged and how he realized what God wanted him to do. His family also suffered although in different ways. I was a little put out that they didn't show heaven at the beginning of the movie, but after the movie was over I realized that they were letting me go through the process with him, just as his family and friends did, why he kept asking to go home, before hearing about heaven. Then we all understood part of his agony. Many thanks to Rev. Piper and his family for sharing his journey with us.

2.0 out of 5 stars Title Misleading - 5 Minutes of Heaven & The Rest An Excellent Inspiring Account
Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2021

Two stars because of the title. Please know that if you have not already read the book the movie is not 90 minutes in heaven. Maybe 5 minutes and not even presented as well as the written version. The story is inspiring and gives a certainty to Christians that THERE IS A HEAVEN but please don't think this movie will give you a really good idea about what is will be like. The story is a heartbreaking account of Mr. Piper's accident and the challenges afterwards. God bless him for sharing and I wish all the best for him.
