Boring and uninspiring
Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2019
Unfortunately, Showalter's stories tend to be wordy and boring, and this is no exception. The story got so long and boring that I found myself struggling to go on. In end, I just gave up and didn't finish it. Normally, I "devour" such novels within a couple of days. No comparison with most of Kresley Cole's work, for example. Moreover, Showalter seems to be secretly promoting in all her books the idea of "saving oneself" for wedding day, as if we were still living in the Middle Ages. It is really hard for a modern woman to accept, even within the limitations of romance novel. Finally, an observation for this particular book: sorry, but no, one can't "hear the waves" of the sea in the center of Athens! It is a bustling metropolis, full of the noise one would expect, such as cars, buses, honks, people rushing about their business. And it is in quite some distance from the sea too. At best, one might experience a light breeze due to sea air in the summer, but that's about it. As a resident of Athens, I was quite upset by the erroneous description of the city as more of a seaside, peaceful village. It's not. When a writer doesn't care to get their facts straight about a place they feature in their book, it's not a very professional thing to do and doesn't reflect well on them.
