Amazon calculates a product’s star ratings based on a machine learned model instead of a raw data average. The model takes into account factors including the age of a rating, whether the ratings are from verified purchasers, and factors that establish reviewer trustworthiness.
The information will never go out of style, so this is a welcomed reference use in good shape.Yes- I suppose that the information can be web-searched- but these days that can sometimes take longer than opening a book like this. (when was the last time that you searched anything and it was the first thing that came up and was free-or even relevant to the search term?)) Plus -dddoes everyone keep a computer up and running in their shop at all times? This book on a shelf is just as quick if not quicker. As another reviewer had stated later editions did omit some of the information in this one to make room for the CNC information. I can use that information as well but not as much and it can be had elsewhere- however I needed the omitted information more. Kick around used book stores and maybe find a few different editions as they do vary slightly. I do like that all of the charts still appear in the same font and script style that I imagine they did in the first edition. there is something about that that makes it seem ...just classic and trustworthy and authoritive?. nostalgia maybe.
I work as a Civil/Structural designer. While I didn't want to pay the price for a new edition of this book, I was definetly willing to pay the asking price for this one. It's a great resource and will never be too old to be useful. It was in great condition for its age. A very welcome addition to my bookshelf.
