I actually wrote a story for this anthology and was not accepted by it. I suppose I could have been quite upset and taken it out on the editors with a negative review, but instead I would recommend this book highly to those who enjoy a bizarre mix of wild west and gothic literature. There were definitely a couple stories that I believe could have been deleted from the anthology but by-and-large I found the quality of the stories to be excellent. Most of the stories are suspenseful or horrific in nature although there were some lighthearted ones as well.
Given that these are all short stories, I felt the character development was very good for the amount of space allowed by the genre. Most of the stories had excellent timing as well. I am a fan of this genre and have frequently played a game, "Deadlands," that is very much in the same spirit. If you cannot imagine what a gothic western is like, yoou might want to watch the movie, "Tremors 4: The Legend Begins" as an introduction although that film does tend to be a little more comical than most of the stories in this anthology. I would just like to say, "Well done!" to most of the writers and the editors.
