Under powered but nice feature set
Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2019
I have a few UBNT APs, and a few UBNT switches already deployed at home. All of them controlled by my cloud key gen 2 plus, and an Edgerouter 12 doing the routing. I've always wanted to see what features are available and how well the USG routers work so I went ahead and got this pro 4, that is less powerful than my ER12. Well, it definitely has a very nice feature set and integrates great with the Unifi controller..........but......... I have a 300/12 connection. UBNT claims it should be able to do IPS and DPI on about 250Mbps. Well it was about 140ish down and about 8 up. If you turn on Smart qos plus the DPI and IPS, just forget about any performance. The CPU is much too weak to be using all the nice features in this router for anything over 100Mbps (which most of us are over these days). UBNT needs to make a new USG already that can handle maybe 400-800Mbps with IPS, DPI and QoS on that doesnt cost us $2500 (like the XG which is discontinued lol). This one is going back. But if UBNT comes out with something a bit more powerful, then I'm all in for it. I'd skip the current USG offerings and get an ER-4 or ER-6P or ER-12 if you need speed and QoS.
