How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsPerfect Way to Get Child to Read
Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2019
Potty humor, phonetic spelling, and funny plot lines make this an engaging, fun, and easy read for young readers. Flipping through it at the book fair, I put it back on the shelf--we have enough poop jokes in this house, thank you very much--but my kindergarten child begged me to buy it. As she read it to me the next day, I found myself laughing out loud at the silliness of it, starting when the doctor says, "You're a genius!" to the nurse who suggests they sew the police dog's head to the police man's body following an explosion (and creating Dogman).

The negative reviews harping on the way the author makes light of violence in this book (e.g. the bombing by villian/cat, Petey) is ridiculous. Every child's comic book hero is created by some violent act (do you remember Batman? Spiderman? Ironman?), but in this book, the author chooses to focus on the humor and ridiculousness of the hero, a Dogman, rather than the horror of the world in which he lives. Later books in the series build on previous plots. It's smarter than it seems.

My six-year-old child thought this book was hilarious, and she's now read the entire series multiple times. If you're looking for a way to pry a child away from a television screen on a rainy day, here it is.

I am disgusted and frustrated that this is the type of garbage kids are reading. I bought this for my 6yr old and I refuse to ever purchase another of these books. The gross crude humor is not funny, it’s gross. My kids want a comic style book and we have yet to find one that is clean and appropriate. It’s just sad that this is what is deemed as funny and “kid humor”...I’m sick of the crap that is offered to kids on tv and books. I refuse to support it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Someone please save me from these books....

My 7-year-old grandson loves these books, but I do not. Unfortunately, there are enough words he doesn't recognize that I must do at least part of the reading. I've been able to send some of the books home with him, so I'm stuck with only one or two here. Try to avoid starting this series. There are things I just don't care for in the books--made-up words, ridiculous situations, and not-so-nice comments.

Keeps me interested in reading on but nit a big fan of the illustrations-
I know they're meant to be drawn like that but I like more vibrant drawings.

Gave this to a 6 year old. Now won't stop with poop jokes and talking about killing etc. If your child has already been exposed to that mess well then you will be fine.

3.0 out of 5 stars I liked the books of Dav Pilkey that I've read, but I think ONE series of his books is plenty

I like the books of Dav Pilkey I've read, but I think ONE series of his books is plenty for your child or you. The books are very similar to each other, so just buy the series that most tickles your fancy, and if you don't know which series to buy, I would recommend the "Captain Underpants" series. I am certainly not going to buy any more of Dav Pilkey's books. If I could give the books two-and-three-quarter stars I would. It's just a matter of too much recycling of ideas on his part
