Not being a scientist and having just a very basic understanding on the universe, wormholes..... and singularities... I struggled with all the scientific and technical information in this book. I found it just too technical, and I consider myself intelligent. Just too complicated a story for a casual and enjoyable read. I couldn't follow, and I mainly read sci-fi for fun and diversion. But this story is getting to be way too difficult to be able to follow easily and enjoying the ride.. It's too far out there. I don't know if I will read the rest of this series. I am literally exhausted from reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Victory is Brilliant, Webb is incredibly talented, using his scientific talents to create truly amazing works of the imagination

Victory is the 3rd and final part in the Legacy Fleet series and sees Humanity now facing the Swarm and the Russian Alliance. The Dolmasi have left the Swarm, and have become tentative allies of Granger and United Earth.
However, the Swarm have decided to destroy humanity, changing tactics and smashing planets, crushing everything in their path. They have a new weapon, a Super-Dreadnaught as well.
In this final part of the series, Webb brings it all together, into a climatic, gripping and nerve wracking book that you will not be able to put down. This book starts at the Indira system, with an incredible battle and just does not let up, racing from one amazing scene to the next as Granger, Shelby and the Crew of the Constitution/Warrior try desperately to save Humanity and ultimately the galaxy from an enemy that is so powerful they may just be unstoppable.
Nick Webb is a brilliant author using his outstanding writing skills as well as his scientific knowledge to craft a story that is both action packed, but at the same time intelligent and engaging.
One of the things I like most about Webbโ€™s work, is that there is a good degree of impressive technology, explained in a way that makes it easy to understand and enjoyable. There is some amazing (and believable) technology in this series that seriously blows the mind in the way it is engaged.
The singularity technology that has been employed in this story is captivating, inventive, and so cleverly written, and only Webb is capable of doing this so well, of making it so easy for the reader to understand.
Webb also writes some fantastic characters. His characters manage to capture all the flaws that you would expect to see in real life people, as well as the sheer determination that drives the exceptional few to succeed at their endeavours. Granger continues to be outstanding as the cantankerous old Captain that you just canโ€™t help but admire and support in his epic struggle to save the Galaxy from the Swarm. Proctor is equally brilliant as his second in command, stoic, intelligent, rational and yet, she is his moral and emotional compass when he starts to drift. Webb does an incredible job with these two characters and their relationship, from the very beginning were they couldnโ€™t stand each other, through to this book, were, although there is no romance, they have such a deep respect for each other, and care for each other so much, having been through so much, there is a bond between the two stronger than most romances. It takes a clever author to be able to generate this type of emotive feeling in the reader, this type of understanding, without explicitly stating it.
There are the multitude of other impressive characters as well, from the rather enthralling and expertly crafted Political arena with Avery, Isaacson, Malekov, Volodin and many others, to the Space Combat Arena and the fighter pilots and โ€˜Fishtailโ€™, โ€˜Ballsyโ€™ and funniest of all, โ€˜Pew Pewโ€™ and โ€˜Fodderโ€™.
This does not even cover the Aliens, the bridge crew or people like Admiral Zingano. Webb has created a spectacular array of characters to weave his incredible tale together.
This is set amongst a very realistic back drop of our own universe. And who better to describe it, than a guy who works at NASA? Webb does a beautiful job of describing each of his worlds, the areas in between, giving you the feel that you are there.
This is an amazing book, and an amazing series, one of the best in the Space Opera series I have read, and I think it is more than worth the read.
Webb is a gifted writer, incredibly talented, using his scientific talents to create exceptional works of the imagination.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Would Have Made a Good Book 2

Good reading , much better than the last book although I believe Nick needs to slow down a bit and re-read before the final outcome. You know.. - Cross a few Tโ€™s and dot a few Iโ€™s . I could also tell where Nick was falling asleep toward the end of chapter Sixteen when Real Admiral Littlefield ended his life - with a Pop and some Spray before he slumped to the floor. This ending scene could have been a little more dramatic in many ways.. But we did see a Real Admiral in this book so thatโ€™s a sign of improvement in the right direction. Granger came through in this book and l approve of his overall character. I believe keeping it real will attract many more readers like myself. Although admittedly , I did skipped all chapters of President Avery as well as VP because those characters were played out in Book 2. Overall this is a well written , well thought out enjoyable read for adults thatโ€™s not really too complex or hard to follow. I look forward to see what Nick can do when he puts his mind to it. Maybe Granger will make a comeback someday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Words: "Wow" and "Awesome"!!!

I am at a loss for words about how to describe this most fantastic work of true Action Science Fiction that lets you escape, forcing you to wrap yourself around the science at the same time. Hard to explain, but so enjoyable!!!

The author should be sitting between the greats; such as, Albert Einstein and Steven Hawking, James Watson and Frederick Sanger...to name a few. Very few authors can keep the continuity of science, physics and biology like Nick Webb can!!!

This should be a television series or a movie, but I do not believe a producer could handle, "The Science of Everything", this book has to offer.

Nick, Sir. You are either a genius or traveled from the future on a singularity from another galaxy...and just laughing at us Neanderthals!!!

Brilliant Work and "Semper Fi" from this Warrior Geek Reader and Forever Fan of yours!!!

p.s. Thank you for keeping the bad language down to a minimum too. But, good grief! You don't have to rub it in so much that you know some of your readers don't like it!!! I am a Marine combat veteran; with 8-years of service in the Corps. I had to listen to it every day from the enlisted and NCO ranks. Thank goodness the Marine Corps Officers, and Navy Officers, practiced more language etiquette...both in peace-time and during combat!

The series allowed for more than a few literary McGuffins, but I found it to be a relaxing and distracting read that took my mind away from the problems of the day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prepare for Sleepless nights

This may be the first time I've given 5 stars. However, when I compare this book to the many space military action I've read in the last year, this has to rank as the most compulsive reading. Many of the others I would rank 4 stars so I have no alternative but to rank this 5. It's such a page turner - I finished the 3 book series in about a week - many of the late night sessions going almost to early morning. The author manages to keep enough plot twists that you are constantly wondering how each particularly sub-plot is going to play out. Other interesting attributes include the lead protagonist being old, not young, and is not involved in any romance whatsoever, so it's a nice change from some of the other series' I've read that have a young swaggering hero who invariably has a rebellious charm that the ladies find irresistible. It's pure space action with many plot twists and new players making an entrance just when you think situations cannot become more dire or complicated. However, even though some of the plot machinations are convoluted, the author's hand always appears assured and I never felt confused about the storyline. This book will not change your life but if you are looking for a fun and fast paced space military action book, this will make sure you don't get enough sleep for a week or two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engrossing, immaginative, thought provoking, and enjoyable!

I don't usually bother with reviews, but feel this trilogy deserves some accolades. I really enjoyed all three books in the trilogy. I found the characters and the story very compelling. The sci-fi technology was immaginative, unexpected at times and yet still believable. The story itself kept you glued to the book. The politics, subtrfuge, and backroom dialogue added meat to the overall storyline and shows the author's solid grasp of us humans and our shortcomings, as well as strengths. The despicable trait that those who crave power and dominance over their fellow man, with no concern about sacrificing countless lives, is an age old human tragity. I fear the author's predictions that mankind will not "grow up" by the time we reach for the stars is more believable than the idealistic utopian societies displayed in so many sci-fi books, movies, and tv shows.
I have one minor suggestion about the editing on the third book; I noticed at least half-a-dozen typographical errors that, as my more literate wife says,"knocks the reader out of the story"'. I'm misstified that a simple word processor didn't catch them.

I would love to see a movie series made at the quality level applied to the Harry Potter, Hobbit, and similar movie examples where the storyline of the book is followed as closly as possible. I'm giving this trilogy five stars dispute the apparent rush to press of the third book.
