4.0 out of 5 starsAnother great series starter by Emma Price. Won’t disappoint.

Robert the Bruce sends me of his most trusted warriors on a mysterious mission for an desired ally. He’s sent to protect Lady Isolde, but the mission quickly becomes more mysterious and urgent once he meets Isolde. What is her secret and who is the real enemy here?

I’ve been a fan of stories about Robert the Bruce since I saw Braveheart. Now that I know more about the real history of the man, I’m even more intrigued by story pies about him and his trusted inner circle. This book was well researched so that the story fits well into the historical details. By setting the focus of this series on the lesser known members of the inner circle, there is plenty of room for the author to fill in the blanks with her imagination.

This story was full of danger and plot twists. The main couple have plenty of alone time for their relationship to develop. As they grow closer, secrets are gradually revealed that make for a novel that is highly satisfying as history, suspense and romance.

Another series to follow! Well sleep is overrated, right?

It's too bad you chose to use the name of Christ my savior as a cuss word. And your sexual content is just short of pornography. Otherwise it was a good historical story.

This book is the first book in a wonderful series about a newly created group of Highlanders -- "The Highland Bodyguard". The Bodyguards have an important assignment -- to protect the powerless against England's covert attempts to eliminate people England deems a threat. These Highlanders are to be assigned to various missions by Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland.

The Highlanders are not very thrilled by the assignments, in part, because they are being typically assigned to protect English women and children.

In this story, Ansel Sutherland is assigned the job of protecting the illegitimate son of the Earl of Lancaster, a despised Lord who has come to the Bruce attempting on the surface anyway to establish an alliance with the Scots. Ansel sets out for England and the castle of Dunstanburg, near the town of Embleton. Embleton is a newly established town that serves as the home for servants and other workers at the castle, including those masons, carpenters, and others building the castle walls, turrents, and gates.

Ansel is surprised and disappointed when he finds the castle is incomplete and largely unprotected. There is no garrison of warriors or other protections. He realizes he has a huge job to do; later taking on the repair and preparations for completing the castle as well as training people to defend the castle.

The real challenge he faces lies in the secretive and protective Lady Isolda. She refuses to tell Ansel where the child he is to protect is hidden. Only reluctantly does she later reveal that charge to be protected is her and the Earl of Lancaster's son! Later, after an attempt is made on her life by a hired worker, she shares some information with Ansel. The Earl of Lancaster has his eye on the crown of England. He sees England's Edward II as weak and he, Lancaster sees himself as better suited for the crown. However, Robert the Bruce, believing the Earl is sincere has assigned Ansel to protect, John, the Earl's son.

The story has several twists and turns including a change in how Ansel feels about his assignment, John, and Isolda in particular. Ansel learns, among other things, that the Earl is not to be trusted and that his ambitions make life very difficult for Ansel and the charges he must protect. No, I won't give away all of the plot but this is a story well worth reading. Once I started the book I could not put it down!

This book is amazing, not only the story and the people involved are very attractive but the fact that it is situated clearly in time and space, mentioning true historical events and well known history characters.
The female character is well depicted and supportive of the male character who in return is so honorable and faithful to his duties that he fights to no avail his own feelings until of course, both surrender to their needs and love. The end is happy luckily, but full of surprises.
What I loved most Is that the writer (my first book from her) gives the reader at the end a full description of the facts of the time it is written and which characters existed and which not, what is fiction and what is true. I appreciate very much this kind of information because it is a way of learning about the history of Scotland and because I am tired of those writers who write a book per month without any tips as to when the story takes place and not a single historical fact which makes me think they write a love story that could be placed in any country and any time, of course the past, but the past is very large. I have already bought another book from this author, as I liked her writing and thorough research of the history of Scotland and England as a consequence.

The Lady's Protector by Emma Prince is an entertaining book. Ms. Prince has given readers a well-written book loaded with a fabulous cast of characters. Ansel is a warrior and loyal to the Bruce. He's not happy with the task he's appointed to carry out. Isolda is the mother of Lancaster's bastard child and nothing is more important to her than keeping him hidden and safe. Ansel and Isolda's story is loaded with drama, humor, action, spice and suspense. I enjoyed reading The Lady's Protector and look forward to reading more from Emma Prince in the future. The Lady's Protector is book 1 of the Highland Bodyguards Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

A nice story during the reign of Robert the Bruce in Scotland. An unlikely love story about a Lady and a Highlander. Well written, it was rather fast paced which I enjoyed very much. The first in a series, I look forward to getting the rest of the series. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting! Emma Prince knows how to write a romance!

Be still my heart ❤️. Emma prince weaves a spell as she weaves the story of Ansell and Isolda. This is a real page turner that you won't be able to put down from start to finish. The story is fraught with danger, secrets, emotions, love and romance. The connection between the hero and heroine sizzles from the start. I particularly enjoyed the dialogue and interaction between the hero and heroine. An eddy of unexpected circumstances and events thrust all of those swirling emotions into play front and center. She has a beautiful way of transporting the reader to the past. Thank you so much Emma for such a wonderfully satisfying reading experience!

In an effort to curry favor in as many directions as possible, the King has sent Ansel into England to protect an English nobleman’s bastard son, but when Ansel arrives, the boy has already been hidden away and he finds he must content himself with ensuring the protection of the boy’s mother, Isolda, who they find may be in just as much danger as the boy himself. Great story with an attraction that simmers from the very beginning. I wished at times that Isolda hadn’t been so reticent to trust Ansel, but I understand she was struggling with her past and the distrust it left in her. Ansel was a steady rock, that was impossible to keep from loving. Fast-paced read, and I look forward to reading about the next Highland Bodyguard in Heart’s Thief!
