GREAT OBD II READER

This OBD II reader is unlike the inexpensive ones that you have to use an app on your phone to activate (which I also own). This is a stand alone reader that is very user friendly, and prompts you on every move. It immediately identifies your car, and you don't have to enter the year, make, engine, etc. of your car. This unit is also inexpensive compared to others on the market, and I highly recommend it.

This product is hit or miss but mostly miss and it's mostly junk. My check engine came on (Chevy Cobalt 2005), so I got one of these. 1/10 of the time it said no codes or found codes but couldn't read them. Eventually after a dozen attempts, it actually pulled a code. A few months later, my girlfriends check engine light came on, I plugged it in and the same song and dance, except it was never able to read the code. On mine it atleast said 1 code found and then never read it, this one always says 0 codes found. (Despite her check engine light *flashing*).

Support on this is nonexistant, there are no software updates despite it having a USB port and the 'download' on the manufacturers website is an actual joke. Hilariously, if you download the file (which requires you to register and login) it's literally an archive file with HTML code, pictures, and CSS that says file not found in some other language.

Didn't read 2004 E46 BMW error codes

Bought this to diagnose "check engine soon" light on 2004 BMW 325ci. This ANCEL reader said everything was fine, no error codes. Tried it about three times, same result each time....says everything is OK even though the "check engine soon" light is still on in the car. Took car to AutoZone, hooked it up to their reader and got P0171 & P0174 codes, running too lean, which is a common problem on this car. Not sure what is the problem, but I am returning the unit.
Update: based on the codes I got from the borrowed Autozone code reader, I took the car in for service, replaced the DISA valve which is one of the top causes for running too lean on a E46 BMW. That was 5 months ago and the car is running fine and the "check engine soon" light never came back on. This confirms the ANCEL reader totally failed to read the codes or even detect a problem.

I was sent an opened and used item. Pulled it right out of the shipping package and item was already cut open with many scratches on the screen. Also, the item does not work properly. When I tried to use it, error keeps showing up, followed directions accordingly but still failed to connect. I know for a fact it wasn’t my vehicle because I connected a different OBDII reader that I purchased from an auto store and it worked perfectly fine. Very disappointed and surprised especially with all these good reviews..

Bought this device to read the trouble codes in a 2005 Honda Accord. Despite this advertising for this device stating it reads enhanced codes, the reader reports no trouble codes and cannot reset the warning. Now I will need to take the vehicle in to the repair shop anyway and without even the benefit of forewarning.

May be acceptable on other makes or models, but didn't work for me.

This is crap don't buy it. Stopped working a month after using it once. When do use again and nope nothing. If your engine light comes on you can get a free reading at O'rileys. I was told that this would read my emission problem, tell me the part, the price and where to buy it. That is entirely FALSE! It reads the code for emission leak but will not do the test nor tell the exact part. There are 16 different emission things on my truck that could be the cause. I bought this to tell me which one because I've fixed 3 so far and I still have a problem somewhere. This did nothing but tell me what I already know, that there's an emissions problem somewhere. It's useless. I'm going to return it. This was a waist of money and especially my time. It reads things that aren't important and that u already know. It said $10 next to the emission leak code but not what for. That could be almost anything. If you want results ask a mechanic friend or take it to an auto parts store and have them read it for you. I still am at square on now with absolutely no help from this device. I want a refund.

A waste of money. The navigation of on scrolling through the different diagnostic testings is slow/delayed. The screen is cheap. The buttons feel like they're going to fall off after a couple dozen uses & don't register that you always pushed them. Actually, the unit is cheap and frustrating to use! I've tried the HVAC testing and it's "N/A" in vehicles ranging from 2003 to 2014. I had to select which Kia Soul to test out of 2. It's supposed to get that information about the vehicle when you plug on port! The tester doesn't do all of the tests listed on Amazon description. The booklet that comes with it doesn't give clear instructions. Spend more money & purchase a more expensive scanner that also tests your battery & much more! Don't waste your money!!
