I can't believe I haven't heard of this film before!

This movie is 8 years old, and I've never heard a thing about it! How can that be? Luckily, I'd just happened to stumble across the title and description while browsing Showtime on Prime. Sitting down to watch, it pulled me in right from the very start and I was enthralled throughout. The word needs to get out about what a remarkable film this is! I absolutely loved everything about it! Brits have always fascinated me, as does that era (30s). The style of clothing, hair, makeup, social etiquette and norms were spot on. The story, the characters, the phenomenal cast and their acting, the beautiful cinematography - it's all just amazing. I recommended it to my 24 year old daughter and she fell in love with it too. Now I recommend it to everyone, but I suspect that most men won't like such a true chick-flick like this one. It's also one of the rare films you'll want to watch again.

Tragic and not worth the view!

This movie is the worst...had it been about the struggles of a girl going off to boarding school along with the excitement of making friends, the movie may have been a hit. However, it's more about Hollywood pushing pedophilia as if it is something normal. If they can throw it in our faces enough thought their movies and commercials they would then hope their disgusting desires would be vindicated. Not worth seeing! Sorry I didn't read the reviews before I watched!

Directed and performed. Flawless except for the fact that this is a film about pedophilia and if the abusive teacher had been a man this would never have seen the light whatever device you use to watch.

It is exquisite but when it came time to rate I found it untenable to participate in the glorification of the sexual abuse of a young girl rendered helpless by alcohol. Raped.

Not okay no matter how beautiful.

Another HOMOPHOBIC film from the lesbian psycho-killer genre

For those who are not aware of this, there is a long history of representing women with lesbian desire as twisted, creepy, psychopathic, desperate perverts. In the paperback industry, authors could include lesbian characters, as long as the moral of the story was that lesbians are dangerous and crazy. When characters with lesbian desire began appearing on the big screen in the 90's, ignorant filmmakers resurrected this McCarthy era theme.

This film is offensive and gross. It perpetuates the stereotype that the source of lesbian desire is some form of twisted psychopathology. From the very second the Spanish girl arrives at the boarding school, the viewer knows she will end up dead. The only mystery is figuring out which character with obsessive, stalkery lesbian desire will be responsible for her death. As it turns out, they are both partially responsible.

In addition to the tiresome homophobia, the filmmakers added tiresome sexism. Hmmmm, let's do something new. Let's center almost all the action on teenage girls being super catty and mean. That has never been done. That is such an empowering portrayal of young women. Boys in boarding school have a ton of fun and form bonds of brotherhood. Girls taunt each other to death.

This garbage is now on Netflix, where I wrote this review: TRIGGER WARNING: Pedophilia and murder of a student by a "teacher!" The entire LGBTQI community should be protesting this film. Child molesting is NOT LESBIAN! LGBTQI people have been, and, in many countries still are, accused of child molesting. It's a cruel and unfair stigma that has NOTHING TO DO WITH BEING QUEER! This film should be REMOVED from the "Gay and Lesbian" section of this site. In fact, a movie about pedophilia has NO BUSINESS ON THIS SITE!
