5.0 out of 5 starsTested it against a Thermapen
Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2017
About 3 years ago I saved up and bought a Thermapen for about $100 because the reviews were excellent. I have used it ever since, and love it. But this week I saw an instant(?) thermometer on sale at Amazon for $10.99, and I wanted one for travel. So, I took a chance, and got it yesterday. (Pic below- the new one is red). As soon as I got it I wanted to test the speed and accuracy. I tried it, side by side, on some bread just coming out of the oven. They showed the same temp within a second of each other. Tried it again this morning on boiling water for my tea. Exactly the same temp in exactly the same amount of time. I don't know if it will hold up long-term, but I'm really happy !

Hey out there. Just be aware that you get what you pay for. This unit lasted just 6 months before the metal probe/tube came uncrimped from the plastic base. It worked fine when it was whole, quick temp indication. But even though I was careful in handling it and cleaning it, the fundamental cheapness of the product overcame my TLC. So, avoid it, pay a bit more and get a unit that won't get the come aparts. Oh, when I tried to reinstall the probe, no worky. Big big numbers on the display!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Performance at a Great Price
Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2017

I am a big fan of America's Test Kitchen. They do an extensive amount of reviews and testing of kitchen products. One of their reviews was for a meat thermometer. They recommended Thermapen which cost about $100. I little too steep for my budget. One of the reviews on this ThermoPro thermometer was from an owner of the $100 Thermapen and did a direct comparison between the ThermoPro and the Thermapen. They stated their performance (accuracy and speed) was nearly the same. So for a nearly 10 to 1 price difference, I went with the ThermoPro. I was not disappointed. It works great from reading meat temperatures to reading hot oil temps the thermometer works great. I would recommend this thermometer to anyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars TWO broken thermometers in three months
Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2017
Item Package Quantity: 1Color: Orange redVerified Purchase
Bought my first one on 6/8 and liked it so much I purchased a separate one for baking on 6/30. Tonight I was trying to take the temperature of my chicken and realized one entire column of ink (lights?) was out. A friend used it this week when he was over so I thought maybe he dropped it so I pulled out my baking one and same thing. An entire column of ink was gone. I'm the only one using that one so I know it wasn't dropped. It's pretty pathetic that both thermometers barely lasted three months. Not worth the money IMO.

1.0 out of 5 stars 3 stop functioning within 1 year. Really loved them before going out

Liked the simplicity of use. Quick readout. Multi angle prob helps a lot too.

UNFPRTUNATLY I just went through my 3rd thermopro tp03a. First one quit working within the year. I still liked the function so went ahead and bought 2 more since th price was just $12 well 3 months later and now the 2nd and 3rd have ALL quick working. Tried changing batteries and still no luck. The last one turns on but is off by +10 degrees when compared to 2 different style of thermometers which read identical at 150F. Thermopro now reads 160F. I loved these but apparently it's time to look for a different thermometer. Wish I kept the warranty info, and I can't find any company contact number online.

1.0 out of 5 stars Tale of a Terrible Thermometer
Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2019
Item Package Quantity: 1Color: Orange redVerified Purchase
I bought this product nearly a year ago based on the THOUSANDS of positive reviews. When I got it my first thought was: "How did THIS get SO many POSITIVE reviews??!!" It was made with, what I thought must be, some of the CHEAPEST plastic I'd ever encountered in a "tool", kitchen or otherwise - well, aside from kids' DOLLAR STORE TOYS! But, with doubts in check, I felt it was only fair to give it a fair shot. Though, I didn't expect it to make it to, much less to make it past, its year warranty.

(As my tale begins, let me say that I ALWAYS handled my 'terrible thermometer' with care - EXTRA care!)
Honestly, every time I used this thermometer I was pleasantly surprised with its speed, accuracy, and frankly, that it was still holding up well. But, around the holidays I started noticing some discrepancies with temperature, prolonged time to get said temps, and then of course, the mystery crack. The crack was right where the plastic ended on the probe. As time passed, the crack got worse, I wasn't able to close the thing at all, and the temperatures and times got worse. Enter the new year, and the break. Right around New Years the crack turned into a break and the probe was then, literally, "hanging by a thread - or wire in this case". Of course, despite my willing it to work, it did not. The last time I grilled out, it was in the 50s, we were around a small fire, and I was cooking - no BURNING - burgers in the dark. I wished I'd had a better light, because relying on the thermometer was a huge mistake that cost me nearly $20 in beef. It might not seem like much, but $20 is $20 and I HATE losing money, no matter how much, but especially from a preventable source AND from stupidity (my decision to rely on an unreliable tool)!

I wasn't going to bother contacting the company and making a warranty claim, so I just threw the thing away, chalking it up to a learning experience. But, as I was perusing "digital thermometer land" on Amazon, I came across my little headache again. So, I felt compelled to warn anyone who reads my 'Tale of a Terrible Thermometer'. I've also decided to contact the company. I doubt they'll do anything since I have no pictures, or product, but at this point its about principle. Maybe I'll get lucky, but I'm doubtful and will invest in a better, more durable and reliable product. Its unlikely to be a ThermoPro product, but I cannot in good conscious judge an entire company on such a small product (not a fluke product either - I'm positive they are ALL made of cheap plastic, making it only a matter of time before they break).

In closing, if I wasn't clear earlier, let me be so now. I do NOT recommend this product AT ALL! Good luck to all who decide to try it for yourselves.

I wanted to use this digital thermometer to measure the internal temperature of bread loaves that I bake every week. It has a nice thin temperature probe that helps to avoid large holes in the crust which detract from the finished product.
However, the probe is not accurate. It reads about 10 degrees F low. I verified this via boiling water temperature. There is no way to adjust the calibration. Ten degrees is significant when baking.
Wasted money.

Worked for about a month, then started to display either 400+ temps or XX.X.
Anyone have an idea of how to get a replacement for this under warranty?

I like this thermometer. One of the things I like best about it is that it takes a regular AAA battery. I will not have to buy a much more expensive "button type" battery like my last thermometer used.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fell Apart Within 6 Months
Reviewed in the United States on September 4, 2019
Item Package Quantity: 1Color: Orange redVerified Purchase
Initially I loved this ThermaPro instand thermometer: the handy button that causes the probe to pop out, the simple on/off button, the clear display all won my heart. Plus the thermometer seemed precise.

Then, after using it fairly regularly (about 4x/week), it started to have problems. First, the probe would get stuck and not pop out. I somehow seemed to have fixed this, so I can't complain, but it struck me as odd happening, after only a couple of months of use. Then one day the probe became completely detached from the red plastic handle (see pics). I enlisted the help of my husband, who used Crazy Glue to prevent this from happening again. Then, tonight, all my hopes were dashed when, after carefully (emphasis) removing the probe from the a pork chop (see pics) the probe again separated from the red plastic, but this time, the metal part was detached from the wires and stayed in the pork! Fortunately my husband had a pair of pliers nearby and we were able to remove the metal probe fairly easily.

After this last incident, however, I cannot even in the slightest recommend this product, particularly to someone who needs to use an instant read several times a week. What a disappointment to have this happen only 6 months in - CHEAP!!
