An intense romance with touches of mystery and danger

In the lore for Rise of the Pride, shifters know and discover their mate by touch. One touch can give all the answers ever asked. When one person is human, it’s a bit different but the human usually feels a strong attraction to the shifter. Once that touch is made, any other male who touches the female will cause her unbearable pain that only their mate can ease.

Winter was a made panther, not born. His panther knows instinctively that Nova is his mate. Yet he refuses to touch her to find out for certain. Yes, Nova is attracted to him, their bantering, arguing ritual is well formed now but still he holds back. The other member of his pride will tease and taunt him but he is determined to not touch her. Winter was once human and he refuses to allow “fate” to dictate who loves him back. Yes, he wants Nova, loves her on some levels but it’s not love if she does’t have the right to choose him back but be under some “fated influence” to be his. No, he’ll get her to love him, then he’ll touch her. And while that might make perfect sense to Winter – it will put Nova in grave danger from an enemy that is out to destroy everything they are.

Winter is a fast paced, sexy, intriguing story. While it is a complete story of Winter and Nova, it also continues the threaded mystery and life with the pride that was started in Talon. The members of the pride that we’ve met before, and some new faces, continue their lives adding more information and the hints of stories yet to come. Winter gives us an intense romance, and also moves the stories of the other members of the pride along with developments that happen in this story.

I’m enjoying this series very much. Not only for the really good story line and characters, but also for the thought provoking idea of the power of touch. While reading these stories I’ve tried to imagine a world where the most casual of touches would cause intense pain to a woman who has found her one love. It might at first glance sound romantic that only her man’s touch can be tolerated, yet it’s given me much to think about with this particular introduction of lore into the shifter world.

I would recommend this story and series to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader. You’ll find a provocative story, interesting characters, danger, sexy moments and a group of people that you’ll soon be quite comfortable with. I do have one strong thought – because of the woven threads in this series I do not believe it can be read out of order. Events flow from one story to the next and if you hop around you’ll miss some important aspects of the series. In my opinion.

If you like paranormal novels/romance than the Rise of the Pride series by Theresa His song is ideal. I like it so much in fact that I've purchased 8 of the 11 books in the series...so far. I will probably purchase the remaining 3 at a later date. The Series starts with Talon, who is alpha of the Shaw Pride. Winter is his 2nd in command. The books, being romances, are about them finding their true mates. Which is fine but, it's the unique situations within the paranormal setting that is what I look for. For instance in book 1 the Panther Shifters get outed by their own. A couple of young Panthers got caught on camera shifting. For a species that thrives on secrecy this is a major problem. The consequences of that outing is apparently going to be a common thread within the series (already taken a sneak peak at book 3). Addressing the romance side, I've seen books where the main characters meet and fall in bed within the first chapter with most of the following chapters describing in minute detail everything that happens when those characters have sex. To me that is not romance, it's porn, it's smut, and that kind of story is not for me. It's pitiful when you have to skip 50% or more of a novel because of content. Although Theresa Hissong's books are contain some scenes not made for minors, overall, her books deal with the main characters developing their relationships and all the messy, awkward, frustrations that that encompasses. That is romance. When the characters begin to realize how much they've come to admire and respect the object of their desire, when they surprisingly realize they love the other person and the thought of losing them causes actual pain in their hearts and minds...that is romance and Theresa Hissong writes this wonderfully well. Read the books for yourself, but the series. They aren't that much on Amazon. They are worth the price.

So I finally got to read the second book and let me say that I was not disappointed. So we find out more about Winter Blue and he has his sights set on Nova Raines , only he finds out when something happens to her. These two are perfect for each other. She is head strong, caring, and vocal. Winter's feelings are reserved when it comes to Nova. However, one sure thing is that he will protect her at any cost. So as you know, they did not stop the evil wolf in book one. So will they end the threat this time around. I loved the story line and loved how the author drops hints of what may come. There is action and oh boy some smexy times. The love and emotions are strong in this book. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.

Well I have to say after reading Talon (Rise of the Pride, book 1)I thought it couldn't get any better, but Theresa once again has captured my heart with Winter and Nova's story!!! Both of them so stubborn and strong willed. I am amazed at how Nova speaks her mind and shows strength, but is so real that she has her moments of weakness that make her so relatable!! And Winter, once human, so thoughtful and caring not wanting to hurt his mate or put her through any pain at all.. Winter is a beast of a man at 6'5" and 300 pounds of muscle with ice blue eyes and short blonde hair that stirs your heart and heats your nether regions ;) with the simplest of phrases!!!

"If you ever... and I mean ever, put yourself in harm's way again, I will blister your ass," he growled.
This is my favorite phrase!!!

That is as far as I'll go with the spoilers! ;-)

I am excited to See Savage and Mary Grace 's story and would love to see one for Dane, and what happens To Malaki and Evie? And to Call a and her brother?? Oh man I hope there are way more Pride books!!!

I loved this book even more then Talon's book. Nova just wanted Winter so bad but he refused to touch her. She figured he didn't want her. Winter wanted Nova but refused to turn her. These two had a lot to over come. There was a lot of twists and turns. Loved it and I can't wait for Savage next.

3.5 stars rounded to 4. I founded flaky and not even a good reason for not checking to see if she was his mate. The mate bond is supposed to be so strong and have such a pull. Then she is seriously hurt because of it. Did that change his mind? Nope! That was very frustrating. I would have understood if it drugs were not available or that she begged not to be turned. I am liking that the author makes it sound like the males wait for their mate. They do not touch a female unless they suspect she is their mate. With one touch, their animal knows which means they know.
