3.0 out of 5 starsOrdered twice, both had broken pieces inside case
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on January 26, 2022
Once is a fluke. Twice is a pattern. I ordered this audiobook on CD. When the first set came I opened the case and a bunch of little broken plastic pieces fell out. During transport they'd gotten in-between the discs and scratched them. I sent that set back and ordered a replacement. Exact same problem in the replacement set as well. The tips of the circular spindle that holds the discs in place inside the case had all snapped off. Also, the exact same corner piece of the outside case was broken off. It's as if the entire manufacturing run of them had been dropped from a great height and all suffered the same internal damage. This means the discs float free inside the case and get all scratched up. Also, the case won't stay closed. Secondly, when you upload the CDs, they upload as track 1, track 2, disc after disc. No discrete names for the tracks. Most upload systems will then play the first track 1 as the same "track" across multiple discs. That means, as you go along, it will replay old tracks as if they are the newest track in the book. Makes for a lot of frustrating deja vu. So, after you upload the CDs, you have to then go in and rename each and every track (all 206 of them) with it's own individual name so that it will play all the tracks, in order, across the whole audiobook. While that's hardly a tragedy, it is really tedious and time consuming.

1.0 out of 5 stars A tangled mess of characters and plot
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on January 26, 2018

I really enjoyed the first three books but started struggling with the fourth book and literally wanted to take the 5th book and toss it in the fireplace and ask for my money back. When the protagonists of the story(two main ones and 4 lesser ones) are relegated to less than 20% of the book, when the author writes 30 pages concerning battles which have no real place in the plot and another 30 pages in dialogue concerning a peace treaty with characters I dont even recognize and really could care less about, at this point I started realizing that perhaps the author is getting paid by the word. Did you really need to bump off in totally careless and undramatic prose 3 characters in the 5th book of the main group of five other than the author was just tired of them and decided what heck Iโ€™ll just kill them off. None of the magic in all five books was of anything more than killing people and for vengeance. Why would you introduce 10-15 new characters in book 5 who I could care less about and have really nothing to with the main story. The main plot of all 5 books was concerning the odyssey of the two main protagonist was lost somewhere in unrelated incidents, unimportant characters and general uncaring prose by an author who seemed to care more about the number of words he wrote than maintaining a coherent plot. Then to add insult to injure this has author has book 6 coming out, God forbid.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst ending to a great series EVER.
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on March 6, 2020

Just like I feared. Series stories always seem to forget about their "legend" and instead of telling a good story through to the end they screw it all up. The style of this writing is so different from the other books it seems like someone else finished it. Chapters start way in the future with side characters telling the story, writing it down, or it being studied way in the future. It ruins the flow of the story because all of these unessesssary characters appear, you know who survives and who dies, there is WAY too much writing about the war movements and battles because it doesnt move the story along, too many characters to keep track of so they get killed off in meaningless ways. They dont even accomplish anything, their deaths mean nothing so why bring them in at all? The big reveal of who the emperor is....is just stupid. Ciri is a wretched main character... I want to slap her more than anything, really dont care at all what happens to her at this point. It's one meaningless adventure full of crap decisions one after the other, the legend is just dumped (like in GoT) and everyone dies and Ciri goes to Camelot with Sir Galahad. Seriously. Who was high when he wrote this crap? One of the worst endings ever.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing wrap up

I really liked the first 3 books; number 4 was slow; this one was tough to finish. Only to see the ending did I press on.

***Spoiler***

My main complaint is there was so much build up that never went anywhere:
- the prophecy about the child Ciri was supposed to have to change the world
- Nilfgaard + Cintra+ northern war conclusion. So the Emperor/Duny is an ok guy who marries the impersonator and lives happily ever after? I am so unfulfilled. So many pages read for him to just ride off.
- how dare he kill all the witchers friends so nonchalantly. Could at least Cahir or Regis lived? They were great characters. I thought Cahir + Ciri would have some epic conclusion but..nope
- the time jumping! Gah! I could barely follow his story jumping to times + characters we don't give a rat's butt about! Final book should have been focused on the Witcher and crew.
- The final ending...Ciri just lives in Camelot now? Annnd what about her world that I just spent weeks reading about? Just.... so frustrating!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as strong as the other books. (Spoilers)

Honestly, I really didn't like this book. The writing was completely different, in that it didn't nearly have the amount of depth as the other books. The characters were off. The dialogue wasn't fulfilling or profound. And honestly, the climax just seemed like a way to kill off nearly all of the major characters. It didn't leave any emotional impact. I also think it was too focused on fulfilling the "perfect" plot the author had in mind, regardless of whether the characters would make those decisions. I also don't like how the author just changed Ciri's powers honestly. As well as the magic system in general. Where once Ciri was a channel, having nightmares about some unforseen force, now she just jumps through time and space. Sure, it's cool, but it seems like the author got swept away by that. Where once Yennefer turned a cart full of peasants into various harmless animals, turned herself invisible, and created kestrels out of a skull, now she just shoots things out of her hands, as if there was no other way to use magic. It was just entirely unfulfilling, and not nearly as profound as the other are.

I love the character of the Witcherโ€ฆand the author had some great ideas and adventures early on in the series. But this last book was the final straw. It was full of incoherent ramblings of kings, mages and leaders. The storyline was disjointed and jumped from time to time and place to place. The whole series just lost its footing and slide down a hill of dyslexic ideas and concepts. Itโ€™s been coming for a timeโ€ฆbut this book really didnโ€™t make the cut and Iโ€™m not going to continue with this series.

It's bad. Tedious to read, find myself caring less and less about what happens. I've seen this before, when an author just runs out of ideas, and doesn't know where to go with it. I am disappointed because I enjoyed the other books.

*spoiler alert*

and a unicorn steps out of nowhere and everything is ok again. Our heroin jumps to our world and rides into the sunset with Gallahad. I have never been so disappointed with a book in my life.

The book was maybe 20% about the original characters and the rest was irrelevant filler. Written like he used Quentin Tarentino's non sequential timeline storytelling but put it in a blender first, and told from 30 different 3rd party perspectives using irrellevent characters, but not until you had learned those irrelevant characters life stories.

1.0 out of 5 stars This novel seemed like it was not needed what so ever to end ...

This book was extremely hard to get through. It was all over the place. It went from a solid story line to a novel with a bunch of subplots that had nothing to do with the story he built up to. This novel seemed like it was not needed what so ever to end a great story. Instead we were given 300 pages of filler. I was very disappointed with the way this novel was written and maybe it has something to do with the translation? All in all, skip this one folks, it isn't worth it. Maybe if it was 2 dollars.

Truly enjoyed the first 3 books in the series. #4 was sort of meh, but I'd purchased #4 & #5 together in anticipation of the same level of enjoyment. Didn't happen. If all the extraneous battles and treaty negotiations that filled out the bulk of this book are to set up book #6, well, good luck with that. I know I won't be back for anymore.
