I read Ben Montgoery's first book, which I liked very much, and was looking forward to this one. The subject matter sounded very interesting but what a disappointment! There was very little about Joey for the first 3/4 of the book. The things she did during the war were just glossed over instead he mostly covered the war itself. Then it turned into a story about the people who helped her get out of the Phillipines. The story turned to her once she got to Carville but I never felt the essence of Joey. She may have been a good person who did heroic things but at the end she sounded like someone who was not very likeable. I gave this book 2 stars because I finished it but it was a struggle!
