I read a lot of the reviews before making this purchase and thought hey, this book must be good, everybody says so. I am definitely in the minority here. I read Mate Set by this author and did not like that book at all but I wanted to give her another shot. After reading Justice, I have definitively decided, Luarann Dohner is just not for me.
The best thing I can say about the book is the story was great. I was able to catch on even without reading the 1st three in the series.
Justice is an elected New Species leader who falls in love with a human, Jessie, and doesn't want anyone to know. He's afraid they will become targets by hate groups and other narrow minded people who fear things they do not understand (hmm, sounds familiar) which would put Jessie in harms way. As their feelings grow for one another in a very, very short time, Jessie and Justice continue to argue over making their relationship public. She wants to tell the world. He wants to keep it on the DL to protect Jessie and his people. Plus there was a lot of sex to be had.
Oddly for me, I liked the female lead role better. I like tough chicks as opposed to the whiny, come-rescue-me types. They drive me insane. Jessie spoke her mind, knew how to protect herself in battle, although she could be viewed as being a little trigger happy. She stayed locked and loaded. Justice, as the leader of his people, had to put on a certain face to the world. You know how politicians do. He was supposed to be this strong, sexy male; all about his people and protecting them. That he was, but behind closed doors, the tie came off and he was something else. I couldn't connect with Justice though and normally I love the male protagonist.
Finally, the typos, mispellings, misplaced or missed words were incredibly annoying and at times distracted from the story. That's too bad too. The $8 I paid could've gone to one of my favs like J Franks, K Cole, L Ione, A Hunter, and D.B. Reynolds.
This author is just not for me.
