AN UPLIFTING STORY OF LOVE AND AFFECTION
Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2021
Claire owns a store in Eternity Springs, it is called Forever Christmas. It holds everything that people normally consider for Christmas and many, many other things. For instance, there are the 12 Dogs of Christmas ornaments. It is a treasure trove of Christmas.
Jax is a father of an 8 year d boy, Nicholas. Nicholas was in a terrible accident which took his mother’s life. That accident has made Nicholas’s life very difficult. His memories are so horrendous, he has not been able to face them.
Because Jax was stationed on a nuclear submarine, Nicholas has been living with his maternal grandparents. That relationship has altered the lives of both Jax and his son.
In order to get back to being a family of a father and son, Jax moves them to Eternity Springs from Seattle. It is the only place which seems to bring a feeling of peace for both of them.
This is a very uplifting story.
Ms March’s entire Eternity Springs series is one which includes human beings who have lived lives which are not always perfect. But the small Colorado town seems to provide everyone with a new perspective and new lives.
Claire, Jax and Nicholas all have to overcome their pasts. Each of them must face their fears and find ways to move forward. As most adults know, that is not always easy to do.
Claire is a beautiful and successful retailer. She has made a life for herself in Eternity Springs because she basically has kept the pain in her past in the past. She participates in life but never really immerses herself in life. She skates along the surface. That is the way she protects her heart.
Jax feels guilt about Nicholas and his issues. His time in the U S Navy was his duty and he had no choice about the length of time of his service. He wants to help his son, but he does not feel he has the skills nor the knowledge. But, if love could cure all of Nicholas’s ills, they would be long gone. Jax is one of the best father figures one can find in literature.
Both Claire and Jax love Nicholas. That is one of the ongoing themes in the book. That Nicholas is immersed in an atmosphere of love and humor.
Nicholas is a very important part of this story. Because of his insights, and affection he has a steady growth during the book. The reader can cheer each of his great steps forward. This kid is a very courageous little boy.
Just as in all the Eternity Springs books I have read, I fell in love with nearly everyone I met.
This story has a feeling of wonder. The good things seem to simply fall into place. And the feeling of Christmas adds a good deal to the good things.
The regular population of Eternity Springs is made up of good people. And they are all so very kind and helpful, it makes Eternity Springs seem like the most wonderful place in the world to live.
Although this is part of a series, the story works as a stand alone. There are explanations of past relationships and events.
I am in love with Eternity Springs and the people who live there. I think any reader looking for the feel good part of life, will find it as I do...A Lovely Small Town.
