MUCH easier to dial in with all front panel controls verses the jumpers of the originals. And AMAZINGLY quiet for having a tube in there somewhere if not on the main chain. A good 8 db quieter than my Musical Fidelity MX-VynL sitting below it switched into the same chain, A possible issue; I can't help but think the ohm dial is off, as the same reference MC carts and tables I keep here that used to need for example 150 ohms loading on the Tube DS, register almost double that to get the same result on the DS2. I also wish you could go up and back on the gain levels instead of up only. Overall a major improvement for the same price, so I call that a win.
Big improvement over the phono stage that was built into my Onkyo amp. My records sound amazing and will sound even better after the tubes gets some hours on them. A little pricey but as the ole saying goes “you get what you pay for”. There are cheaper phono amps out there, and there are much more expensive ones as well, for the money this is a very nice audiophile quality piece of equipment.
This is one awesome little preamp. The tubes provide just a slight touch of warmth and the detail retrieval is great. The appearance, especially with the tubes partially sticking out the top, is elegant. The front panel controls provide everything you could ever want or need. This is one really nice product, and goes fabulous with the classic pro ject turntable.
