Clunky writing, played-out story
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 26, 2018
I had plans to love this book, I really did. As a sixth grade teacher, I’m always looking for diverse books to fill my classroom library, and I was eager to make this addition. My students (and my own 12 year old son) love horror fiction, and I had every reason to believe we’d all love this book. However, after reading it, I was just so disappointed. The writing felt clunky and amateurish- lots of telling and almost no “showing”. The story was derivative and even the addition of Korean folklore couldn’t save it. My son was bored a quarter of the way through it because he already had the plot completely mapped out. Super bummed out about this book.
