I'm pretty much jonesing on all the Marc Thil books (need you to write more, Marc!). Many years ago (OK, about 50), I studied and then taught French, but have done nothing with it since then. However, I have retained a lot and can read it almost fluently, so I've decided to polish up my skills and get fluent again. These short novels and the Histoires a Lire are perfect for that. I have retained all the grammar (the hard part) and just need to look up some words and get better at speaking and listening. Thanks to another reviewer's suggestion, I am now reading the selections out loud to practice pronunciation (my dog and my cat seem to enjoy it every night). And the plots are enjoyable, too -- not just language lessons. At this point, I would say I am between an intermediate and advanced reader, so if you are looking to improve your skills, whatever your age, you will enjoy and profit by reading Marc Thil's works. This particular one, Petit Alexis, will tug at your heartstrings.

Another wonderful book by Marc Thil. I used it in my French Reading Class with senior citizens. The story is universal--enjoyable to anyone from age 7 to 97. Marc does not baby his readers--they are challenged by rich vocabulary and sophisticated grammar. There is always a moral to his stories. His books are not just fun to read; they teach lessons in life, but never by preaching. I recommend all of his books to students of French.
