This is a wonderful and thought-provoking collection of sports writing. I've read this anthology in previous years and was amazed by how many of the writings stuck with me for years after I read them. This year's collection is no exception and is very highly recommended to anyone who enjoys sports, good writing, or humanity in general. The writing (or articles) collected in this anthology are truly transcendent.
There are 27 stories in this anthology and not a dud among them. Some are moving, some motivational, some political, and all are magnificent. All have been previously published in some form and are generally in the 10-15 page range (although a couple push the 30 page mark, and others fewer than 5). Some of the stories are about well-known athletes (Tiger Woods, William Perry, Muhammad Ali, Steve Kerr) and others are about unknowns (prison marathons, would be all-stars, poker cheaters). And they are all well-told and interesting. Very highly recommended reading.
