Do Not Buy!
Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2019
I bought what I thought was a beautiful pre-seasoned cast iron pot and lid for a special dinner for my husband for Father's Day on June 16, 2019.
I washed the dutch iron prior to cooking as instructed.
I made one dinner in it and then cleaned it immediately. I am very familiar with cast iron so I coated it with vegetable oil (also in instructions from Lodge) while still warm.
I was shocked when my paper towel that I was coating it with came up with rust. The more I "seasoned" it, the more the paper towel came up with rust.
Then the finish started to deteriorate as show in the photo.
Instructions from Lodge was "not to worry about rust" and to scrub with steel wool. If I were to scrub with steel, there would be no finish left at all, in that a mere paper towel took off the finish.
I will be contacting seller, but wanted to forewarn any shoppers. I read all the reviews before purchasing and there was no mention of this huge flaw.
Rust is corrosion which is the slow eating up of metals layer by layer due to the reaction with moisture present in air. Rusting is harmful because it destroy the quality of metal and also reduce its strength. This certainly was no slow process but after one usage.
In addition, ingesting rust can cause iron poisoning
I am not a first time user of cast iron and I am very upset
