A great read, even without Dismas and Abe!

I am very surprised that the reviewers have not given this book higher marks. I think it is because if you are a fan of John Lescroart and his crew of Dismas Hardy, Abe Glintsky and crew you are accustomeded to really liking most of the main characters in each of the stories. Sure, there are the bad guys but most of the people are very likable, fully developed characters. Not so in this novel.
I admire Mr. Lescroart for having the courage to divert from his very popular series and characters and introduce us to these new, very unlikable people. With the exception of the two police detectives, I found each character to be thoroughly unlikable. However that did not spoil the book for me.
I thought this story was great, although the one event that got it all rolling was a bit of a stretch for me, I am sure things like that to happen. This story is truly one of consequence and (lack of) character. It moved right along and had enough twists to keep me interested. I really enjoyed reading it.
