GOREGOUS illustrations! My daughter loves to play the "find 5 of these items" challenges after we read each story. We picked up Grace Maccarone's other story book of fairy tales at a garage sale a few years ago and it's been a favorite, so when I found this book on Amazon I had to scoop it up! My seven-year-old LOVES these books! The rhyming stories are more enjoyable for me, as an adult, to read as well.
Because each short tale is a longing rhyming poem, there's not as much storytelling as I would have liked. When I'm reading to my 6 and 4 year old, I have to stop and explain what's going on in the story. We love the pictures and stories though.
LOTS of information on the page. Book was a little advance for my 4 1/2 year old granddaughter. I had to read stories first and paraphrase to keep her attention. She DID like hunting for hidden objects, but asked me several times what that hunt had to do with the stories! I've seen better books for kids...
The concept was perfect for my 5 yr old princess-obsessed charming niece 💕 but as I scanned the stories, I found that Princesses were not very prominate in telling the tales. That's just me - she loves it anyway. The reason I gave the book three stars is because as an artist, I felt the pretty illustrations could be much more vibrant in color. I found them rather dull.
