I truly loved your book Called for Traveling. With Covid numbers really bad here in Los Angeles and staying in semi-stay-at-home orders knocked out the book in 3 days. Your story is inspirational, not just for basketball, but how to work hard and chase your dreams whatever they might be. I wish you and your family the best, and thanks for the great read. One of the best books I've ever read. With a son playing his 2nd year overseas - Tyler does a tremendous job sharing his basketball journey. Everyone thinks that playing basketball overseas must be a blast - there definitely are many high points but there are many challenges as well. If you have the opportunity to play at the next level somewhere, whether in the states or in another country - definitely a must read. This will be a great holiday gift for my son and his fiancé.
An insightful view of a professional athlete striving to make a career in a sport is well written and extremely entertaining. The humor makes you see the silliness in the everyday inconveniences regardless of the location and culture. You connect your experiences with his and can't help but laugh. Realize the amount of energy and dedication to achieve his goals and cheer for a fun person as you travel with him. I had a great time reading his play on words and thinking about his experiences. YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD TIME TOO !!!!!!.
Tyler Smith writes a realistic and humorous account of his career in basketball overseas and here in the United States. The book will you have you laughing from his time to transitioning to vastly different cultures and languages to cringing from various injuries he suffered in a land with limited medical resources. The glamour of professional basketball most fans think of is put to rest by reading this book. Well worth the time and it is a smooth read from start to finish.
I am not much of a sports fan, yet the author's descriptions of both basketball game highlights and the challenges of being a professional athlete living abroad are engaging and entertaining. Rather than a celebration of self, Tyler shows a sincere appreciation for teammates, coaches, and others in his life. Yes, considerable talent and dogged persistence contributed to his success, yet family and faith were also of key significance. What a role model he is for others hoping for a professional career abroad!
If you want to a read a book written by a Pro athlete who truly played for the love of the game, not the fame or pay, then this book is for you. This entertaining & inspirational read details Tyler's 11 year international pro career across multiple & very different countries.
Witty and interesting book for any sports fan. His stories about playing in different countries, with their crazy fans and low-quality facilities were especially good. Also provides insight on how tough it is mentally and physically to be a pro athlete in any league.
Whether you love basketball or not you will thoroughly enjoy Tyler Smith’s journey. Readers follow an incredible story of perseverance, desire, toil, and turmoil as he travels the globe following his dream. Through the lens of a gifted, but not brilliant, athlete, with a fabulous dry wit,you will visit many interesting and foreign cultures and find inspiration following Tyler’s experiences. A sports and life book which should not be missed! Jim Smith
A thoroughly enjoyable look in to the life of an athelete pursuing his dreams! Tyler’s tremendous writing ability takes the reader on a fun tour of his experiences around the world, playing the sport that he loves, and sharing the life lessons that he learned. A must read for everyone! I couldn’t put the book down. Well done Tyler!
