How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we donโ€™t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

3.0 out of 5 starsA FILM WITHOUT AN ENDING THAT MAKES NO SENSE.
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on July 26, 2021
THIS FILM HAS A STORY THAT IS BARBARIC AT THE CORE, WHERE INTELLIGENCE TESTS DETERMINE WHO WILL LIVE OR DIE. IF YOU PASS YOU LIVE, IF YOU FAIL YOU DIE. IN THIS STORY APPARENTLY MANY OF THOSE WHO PASSED WITH HIGH SCORES WERE ALSO FOUND TO BE INCLUDED IN THE NO PASS GROUP, THAT IS THE SCANDAL WHICH IS UNCOVERED BUT WHO IS RESPONSIBLE IS NOT REVEALED. BUT THE REAL AND HIGHER ISSUE, THE EXTERMINATION OF INNOCENT NORMAL TEENAGERS EAR MARKED FOR DEATH BECAUSE THEY FAILED AN INTELLIGENCE TEST IS COMPLETELY BY PASSED THE ABHORRENCE OF THIS IDEA IS TOTALLY IGNORED AND THE ENDING COMPLETELY UNRESOLVED THERE IS A SCENE AT THE END WHERE MEDICAL PACKS ARE BEING PREPARED FOR WHAT WE DON'T KNOW AND THE PROTAGONIST OF THE FILM A DRUGGED STUDENT ON THE WAY TO HIS DEATH SEES HIS GIRL FRIEND HANDLING THE PACKS, TO WHAT END? YOUR GUESS IS AS GOOD AS MINE. THIS FILM IS IN A REAL SENSE FASCISTIC. ALMOST A PARODY OF WHAT THE TEXAS REPUBLICAN GOVERNOR AND HIS REPUBLICAN SENATORS ARE TRYING TO DO IN 2021, TO RESTRICT THE VOTING RIGHTS OF ITS CITIZENS

2.0 out of 5 stars HUNGER GAMES without the Games
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on July 20, 2020

THE THINNING is like THE HUNGER GAMES, except they just haul the kids off and cut their throats. It's called culling. They cull 5% of the school kids once a year, killing the ones who do worst on an academic test. Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention but it appeared to me that the kids at every school level take a test and are vulnerable to be slaughtered, every year. If that's the case, then 60% (5% X 12 years) of society's youth would be killed by the time they finish high school! This movie is THE HUNGER GAMES but without imagination, creativity, cleverness, appeal, or common sense. (Society just sits by while 5% of their children have their throats cut without even getting to say goodbye?) You might enjoy the movie. Many other commenters seem to like it. I think it's a waste of time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great potential...loaded with political innuendoes...
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on May 21, 2017

Had great potential, but as usual with Hollywood, had to muck it up with their left leaning political innuendoes. The "evil state of Texas Governor wanting to be President" working the "capitalist system" with much injected "rich political cronyism" while the "good people" who are actually the smart ones, are destroyed and eventually used for increasing their power. Of course, this all happens because humans are "giving the planet a fever." All this happens with the American flag as a backdrop and singing of patriotic American music being forced into the heads of grade school kids. This could have been a good movie since, while a bit far-fetched, the message is that governments can, and do, use people for its purpose. An overarching government with too much power is truly a threat to individual liberties. They could have had this message while leaving their political views out of it. Or better yet, how about a movie that is just plain entertaining without the constant barrage of leftist dribble added to everything hollywood does. You'l probably love it if you agree with their notion, but for the other half of the country, find something else and save a few bucks.

This movie had a great plot line which adapted the idea of The Hunger Games and other movies with themes of dictator control in means to keep people in line. Overall, I felt as if it was a poor rip off of M. Night Shyamalan in the sense that Shyamalan's movies make you tilt your head and wonder why you didn't see it before---whereas this just makes you shake your head.

The movie is poorly scripted (insert awkward and uncomfortable dialogue here), the actors are average at best (convince me of your situation, please), they try to portray a "love" interest which not only fails to catch--it doesn't even hit. It could have been better directed and edited to uplift the poor acting and even the bad diction and undeveloped plot.

It remains in the pile of "good idea movie" that was poorly executed (pun intended).

2.0 out of 5 stars The design

Is entertaining but The design of this movie did not seem to change all that much in the future with hairstyle, clothes , the automobile and technology. But the idea of taking a life or death exam is pretty scary with all those security guards dressed in black from head to toe.

Ugg. This is like the B-side of Breakfast Club meets Saw. Weak and predictable story line. The acting was so bad it will be featured very shortly on Mystery Science Theatre 2000. It's like the movie was spit out of a poorly programmed young adult plot generator. Just bad. Very Very. Bad.

2.0 out of 5 stars Predictable, with stereotypical characters and shallow plotline.

The plot of this movie had really good potential, but the writing was really lame and paper-thin. The characters that were created for the story were extremely stereotypical and boring -- I mean out of the three teachers featured, one was a sex-crazed evil male, while the other two were saintly female teachers feeling remorseful about the thinning. Hardly reflective of the kind of complex and not so black-and-white personalities in real life. The storyline was equally predictable. My wife and I started make a joke about what was going to happen next because it's been done already in just about every other film out there. When are producers going to start creating something more fresh and interesting for people to watch?

2.0 out of 5 stars Too unsophisticated to be interesting
Reviewed in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ on July 9, 2017

The premise is an interesting one: the notion of population control through the elimination of the school-aged intellectually weakest. The trouble is the movie is filled with cliche characters traveling through a predicable but far fetched storyline. Speaking of far fetched, the security force aspect of the storyline was pure silliness. It would have been a major improvement just to make them somewhat believable rather than characters out of some low budget comic book.

With a little more depth and some more thoughtful character and story development this could have been a decent watch. As it is don't waste your time.

This is a weak teen angst film. Misplaced angst about UN taking over the world. I should have known better. It belongs under conspiracy theory with a better veneer and production value.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lame attempt at copying George Orwell...very lame

Bad acting. Lame attempts at making political statements which were schizophrenic at best (they couldn't seem to decide if they think patriots will cause a super race ideology or if it's the liberal agenda). There were a few exciting moments which is why it got 2 stars but really I'm sad I wasted my money on this one. The end was as if they didn't know what to do so just said, OK the end. Stupid
