Love this toy but there are two big issues
Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2018
My baby loves this toy and it is very cool. I love the learning elements — push a button and it lights up and tells you the color or animal. This is great for baby’s development. It is also very cool how it plays entire songs and you can switch between English, Spanish and French — which will be helpful when we want to teach our baby other languages. However, I have two issues with it that keep it from getting 5 stars.
First, the button for “purple” has a red light. So my baby is pressing “purple” and seeing “red”. However, there is also a “red” button which also has a red light, which might be a bit confusing to a baby who is just learning these concepts. Obviously this is not ideal when you are trying to teach a baby colors.
Second, when baby presses the button for purple and the toy says the color name, it sounds like it says “urple”. It’s annoying but it has become the running joke between my husband and I that our baby is going to grow up and say favorite color is “urple” while pointing at the color red.
For $20, I would still recommend this toy. I thought these things were flaws in one toy so I exchanged it for another — and found that these are not flaws in one toy but features of the toy itself. Because my baby loves it and I supplement it with other learning methods for teaching colors, I still recommend this toy. Just be aware that your child may love the color “urple” (or red) later.
