5.0 out of 5 starsAlexa, turn on the coffee
Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2018
The Coffeemaker itself: This is a simple coffeemaker with a physical on and off switch. It brews nicely and comes with a reusable filter. I prefer to use it with a paper filer as well because I find the reusable filter alone leaves the coffee a bit cloudy...which is true of any reusable metal filter. It brews the perfect amount for me as the only coffee drinker in the house. I get one mug before I leave for work and then have enough to fill up my travel coffee cup.

Turning it into a "Smart Coffee Maker": Since it has a physical on and off switch, you can leave it on and use a smart plug to control when it is off and on. I purchased this pack of smart plugs when they were on sale, and one of these works perfectly with this coffee machine. Etekcity 3 Pack Voltson Wi-Fi Smart Plug Mini Outlet with Energy Monitoring, Works with Alexa and Google Assistant, No Hub Required, ETL Listed, White

Using the app that controls the smart plug, I have it setup to work with Alexa as well. This means that I can simply say, "Alexa, turn the coffee on" and it will start brewing. Of course, in order for this to work, I need to set it up the night before by adding the coffee and water to the machine. I can also turn it off with my phone or with Alexa. I can even see from work if I accidentally left it on with my phone and turn it off I need to. The simplicity of this machine and the physical switch make it possible to elevate it into a smart machine with the right setup.

I prefer this method over buying a more expensive coffee maker with a timer because:
1. I am starting to use Alexa for everything
2. It accommodates various waking times (I simply hit the button or tell Alexa to turn on the coffee when I am upstairs getting dressed whether it be at 5:30 am or 8:30 am depending on the day)
3. You don't have to program timer or constantly set a clock on the machine
4. Once it's set up, it is super easy to use

I recommend this coffeemaker and this setup for anyone who wants to have coffee ready in the morning, or someone like me who doesn't need the normal 12 cups of coffee.

3.0 out of 5 starsBASIC & SMALL coffee maker that works
Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2019
This was a rushed purchase for me as my Mr. Coffee maker stopped working after a year. And to avoid going into convulsions I ordered this coffee maker without paying too much attention to the details, although I read some reviews which are generally positive. I have only had it for three days but have used it several times and four things of note 1) this baby is SMALL... my fault for not paying attention to the details but did not realize it would look like a miniature doll house addition (previous coffee maker was 10 cups so keep that in mind) 2) you need to make sure you align coffee holder/filter so it fits properly before brewing to avoid what happened to us which is brewed coffee all over the counter and floor - there is not a noticeable difference in placement so you might think it is aligned when it is not 3) includes a filter so no need to buy paper filters but it does not securely attach so don’t take out entire holder and shake in trash can because filter will also go into trash can and 4) it works - yup, the sucker actually brews coffee no different than my $60 piece of junk that broke in a year. I do not have high hopes that this will last the year but at $14.99 I can live with that.

CONS: see above but main thing for me is size as it is small. I only drink cold coffee so I am used to a larger coffee maker, at least 10 cups... which I store in the refrigerator. I also have a Keurig which brews one cup at a time and like the keurig I have to brew several times with this baby. But again $14.99! Was going to return but that price keeps flashing before my eyes so will keep it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and easy to use. A basic coffee maker.

Bought this for an aging woman. She loved it. Easy to use and very fast. As another reviewer mentioned, the five cup capacity is misleading. However, when filled with water it will completely fill two large mugs of coffee. The small amount of water heats up quickly. No timer but it does shut off by itself leaving the base heater on to keep the coffee hot. I think you have to shut this off completely to keep the machine from burning out. Oh, I almost forgot. It includes a permanent coffee filter.

Update April 11, 2019. Long time, eh? Just saw this and realized I should have updated earlier to mention that this machine DOES shut down automatically to prevent burnout. I think they all do. Machine still working well and used every morning.

4.0 out of 5 stars Its just a coffeemaker.

This is a coffeemaker. Pretty basic but it works great. One feature i really like is that a reusable filter is included, this saves a lot of time and money. One recommendation I have before your first use is just make a pot of just water to clear out and clean any chemicals that the company used to clean the product. Overall I'm very satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little performing coffee pot and easy to use

Sorry B&D, AmazonBasics 5-cup Coffeemaker out -performs your same size. Unlike the B&D, the on/off switch is located right in the front for easy access; the B&D flip switch was too stiff. One had to hold the pot with one hand while pressing the switch with the other hand. Another plus is the see-through area indicating the amount of water one pours into the maker. For the money, its a great little coffee maker.
This product was well designed to make a delicious
5 cup pot of coffee!

5.0 out of 5 stars Permanent filter is better than paper
Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2018
Style: CoffeemakerVerified Purchase
I bought this machine because it has a permanent filter. I learned that paper filters give you a clean cup of coffee, but they also remove the oils that give your coffee it's flavor. You will notice that the mesh filter leaves a small amount of sediment in the bottom of your cup but that just adds to the flavor. The shower head is only about 1 inch in diameter and has 9 holes. As long as you use coffee that requires 1 Tbs per serving it will saturate the grounds evenly. If you use a coffee which requires 2 rounded Tbs per serving, like Don Francisco, it will leave a depression in the center and not saturate the grounds near the edge of the basket (see photos). Nevertheless all the coffee gets wet and the flavor is still good. So I am satisfied with the quality of this machine for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coffee and Tea
Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2018
Style: CoffeemakerVerified Purchase
I am not a serious coffee drinker but I like to be able to fix myself a cup or two without much trouble. This little coffeemaker fits the bill. It takes up very little room on the kitchen counter, is easy to fill, I like the filter A LOT. You can't put it any of the parts in the dishwasher, but washing only takes 2 minutes.
Now that the weather has turned hot, I use it to brew iced tea. I put the tea bag in the carafe, push the on button, after the water goes through, I stir in sugar if desired then let it steep for about 20 minutes. Turn off the machine, stir the sugar again to be certain it is all dissolved, then pour into 1/2 gallon pitcher and add water to fill.
I didn't want or need anything complicated or expensive. I am very happy with this basic coffeemaker.

4.0 out of 5 stars Truth in advertising: it's basic and it makes coffee
Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2018
Style: CoffeemakerVerified Purchase
This is a nice, basic coffee maker that I'm keeping at the office to replace our previous cheapo coffee maker. It's worth noting that this has a small volume carafe, so it only makes 5 cups (about half of what your standard Mr. Coffee will do) at a time, but it does it well, and it comes with a reusable filter, which is a really nice touch that I've never seen in a ultra-cheap coffee maker before.

This would be great for a dorm room, a single person's apartment, or as I use it: in an office with a couple very tired grad students.

Best cheapest coffee maker I've ever purchased. My previous coffee maker randomly broke on me and I needed a cheap quick option for my morning coffee. This one actually has a reusable filter!! I love that! I dont feel bad that I'm using and throwing away paper filters every morning. Plus the filter is dishwasher safe (top rack) and super easy to take out and rinse. I love this little guy for my apartment kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars By Far The BEST
Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2018
Style: CoffeemakerVerified Purchase
I have owned every 5 cup coffeemaker on the market. Every one of them makes a mess when you start to pour the coffee into your coffee cup, spilling all over the counter. The first thing I noticed with the Amazon Coffeemaker was it poured perfectly from the first cup. It brews a great smooth cup of coffee at a fast pace. I use the paper filter inserts because I like the easy clean up of the grounds but the included filter baskets works fine too. Amazon, keep making this pot, it works GREAT!
