How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat Chair...Some things I'd like to share before and after my purchase.
Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2017
First of all, it's a fine chair. I spent literally hours researching every Mid Century Modern chair online. I chose this one for a retro, Mid Century Mod Man Cave. I intend to use it primarily to watch TV. I needed one that doesn't take up much room.
So, here are some observations I was looking for when shopping, all in one place......
Chair is exactly as described. Extremely well packed and arrived super fast in 2 days by Fedex. Box was in perfect condition.
I put the box on it's side and carefully cut open the top and bottom, and the chair parts slid out easily. It is in only 2 pieces, seat and back, so very easy to assemble by yourself. Just attach 4 legs and drop the back into the seat.
I chose a recliner to lay back at times to watch TV. It reclines easily, with just a push back, and easily returns to upright. No issue with it not "locking into place" when reclined, as many other chairs seem have comments on. It simply stays where you put it.

NOTE: I AM 5 ft. 11" AND MY HEAD IS UNSUPPORTED WHEN RECLINED. Unfortunately this is a feature I was hoping for, but I suppose it is a compromise for the smaller size. With just a couple of inches short, I will have to purchase a small pillow to support my head while reclined. No deal breaker. I've done this before. I would have liked to know this beforehand, though. Otherwise at 5, 11 and 200 lbs, the chair is plenty big enough for me. The chair is comfortable with just enough firmness, but with plenty of cushion. The retractable footrest is fine and hits my legs in a comfortable position.

If you are considering this chair, other than the height of the back, I find no cons, and would highly recommend this one. Hopefully, all my time and research will pay off in saving you some time. Good Luck with your purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love the look and feel of this chair

I love the look and feel of this chair. I need a small pillow when lounged back to comfortably hold my head and I’m 5’3”. My husband is 6’ so this chair is NOT good for him but it’s in my office so it wasn’t intended for him. The chair didn’t come with a lever so you lean back to bring out the recliner. I didn’t realize that when I bought it but not a big deal. I love the burnt orange color and texture of the chair for my mid-century mod Office and it was reasonably priced.

Maxwell
4.0 out of 5 stars Very good.. for the price
Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2018

This classic style chair is budget priced but doesn't look cheap. Whether you'll enjoy sitting in it is an open question for each purchaser.

Normally I wouldn't buy something where comfort, quality and size are important, but at a price of less than $200 for a recliner that something that looks so stylish I figured I'd take a risk.

It arrived in one box and was easily assembled by screwing in the leg posts and gently pushing the seat back into place until it locked.

The fabric is nice to the touch, looks comfortable and seems like it will last. The color is a perfect blend of red and orange. If it were more orange or more red I wouldn't like it, but this mixture of the two brings a strong sense of color to a room in a way that brings attention to itself without sticking out in a loud, glaring way. I really like it.

This chair is a good size for me. I'm a 5'11 male with a normal build. Sitting or in the reclined mode it fits me well with just enough room to feel comfortable. It's cozy but not tight with space to stretch. My friends who are less than 5'5 would find the distance between the front and the seat back to be too deep, putting their legs in an awkward spot of not bending at the knee and resting on the floor.

This chair is light enough that moving it around is easy. But that lightness also means that if you put it on a floor of some sort, you'll need to add something under the legs to cause it to grip otherwise it slides a lot. I've got the front legs on an 8x10 carpet mat and the back on the floor and I think that'll work to keep it in place.

The only complaint is that the comfort of the seat and the seatback is not very good. I expect the seat foam to break in over time and become more soft like my sofa has, but the seat back feels like a flat piece of cardboard with light padding and some nice fabric over it. I can tolerate it and for a cost less than $200 I can try it for many months, but I'm already looking at replacing this in the long run. It does support my back well, it just isn't soft and comforting. So for sitting, it does its job nicely. For reading in recliner mode, it works. If the same chair was made in a deluxe model for $100 more,I'd have bought that and been very satisfied.

This weekend I tried the West Elm Rhys Mid-Century Recliner. Google it: it looks like almost exactly the same chair with minor differences in the recliner parts and maybe the seatback. Despite the similarity in looks, it feels much, much better in the seat and seat back. But, it lists at $699 and takes 6-8 weeks to get in the same color.

I'm happy I bought this chair because it'll let me test how a chair like this looks in my apartment and it'll let me measure how much I actually use it. If I do use it a lot, then I'll probably replace it with something like the West Elm on sale and gift this away to someone who needs it. But for now, I'd recommend it for its balance of features and price.

Read the other reviews for more details and put emphasis on what we're all saying about the dimensions if your shorter, taller or heavier built than an average man or woman.

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like West Elm furniture at a fourth of the price - this chair is for you

I was a bit hesitate at first not sure what to expect, but we love it and ordered a second chair. Very comfortable, durable and trendy.

The only negative is the recliner potion is not really that effective. I'm pretty short (5'5") and I still use an ottoman reclining.

I actually picked this out because it looks exactly like a West Elm chair that was selling for $799. All of guests love sitting in it (as well as our pets). Actually, have had people ask for me to send over the link on Amazon for them to purchase.

I love these chairs. They were cost effective and arrived promptly (earlier than they said they would get here). I bought a set as accent chairs in my living room. The yellow is a great pop of color. They have a slim profile and sleek design, not your dad's bulky recliner. They are reasonably comfy, not super squishy, but looking at the chair, I did not anticipate they would be.

The chairs look great and were easy to put together by myself. Took 10 mins each. They are rather stiff which is why I gave it 4 stars but they are still comfortable, especially when reclined. I would recommend if you're not looking to break your bank account and wanting something nice looking.

Amazon Customer
1.0 out of 5 stars The most uncomfortable chair/recliner ever.
Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2020
Size: Set of 2Color: Muted BlueVerified Purchase
A few things are wrong with this product, but suffice to say the comfort is the biggest pain point.
- The chairs are longer than they are wide, squeezing into them you have to be a very long stick. These are very narrow chairs.
- After two months of use, the buttons are falling off, the fabric is pilling everywhere, the chairs are bowing at the sides and losing their shape, generally falling apart everywhere.
- As far as comfort, this thing is miserable. There is virtually no padding so the wood begins digging into you. It's a full on assault. First, you feel the wood pressing into your spine, then you feel the arms beating into your sides. You feel the squared off top digging into your skull and the flimsy, yet sharp, foot rest digging into your legs. This thing is not a chair, it's a torture device.

Aside from that, easy to put together. Fastest torture device I've ever assembled. If you like narrow and long chairs that look like they were made for endermen, this might be your thing. They look as long as you never sit in them, so if you don't plan to do sitting, this might be for you.

My final verdict? Avoid these chairs at all costs unless you are a glutton for punishment, never plan to use them or have too much money lying around. You'll be carting them off to the dump just after the return window expires.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great chairs
Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2018

These are surprisingly comfortable. A lot more comfortable than the majority of the chairs I sat in at raymour flannigan, Ashely’s furniture, etc. while I was shopping for chairs. It’s hard to find affordable chairs that aren’t hard as a rock but these do a good job! Very easy to put together. Just screw the legs on and slide the back of the chair onto the base and you’re done. A really tall person would maybe not like these chairs too much when reclined. I’m 5’8 and just barely fit. I also have a long torso and my head doesn’t fit on the back of the chair when reclined unless I sit farther down the chair and then I have to bend my knees to keep my feet from dangling off the footrest. So I’d say if you’re taller than 5’5/6ish and want to completely stretch out, this isn’t the chair for you. But if you like to curl up in a chair then it’s great! I also find them to be well made and don’t appear to look or feel cheap.
