This book came up as a recommendation when I bought another Paleo(ish) cookbook and I bought it based on the great reviews it had. I wasn't familiar with either author but have since started following their podcast (Well Fed Women) and am loving it!
I have read through the entire book and tried a few recipes. I haven't gone through the whole 4x4 plan yet, but I plan to start in a few weeks. I have read through a few dozen books on nutrition/health/fitness before but I really enjoyed this one. They are really focused on total body/mind health, self love and healing and the whole book is just filled with love and compassion. Parts of the book put tears in my eyes when they talked about loving your body as-is!
So far I have really liked the recipes that I've made and I can't wait to try more. It is a little different than most other cookbooks that I have. The majority of the recipes that I have seen are fairly "basic". That's not to say that they are boring or lacking in flavor at all, but if you are an aspiring gourmet chef, it might not be your cup of tea. I think it's much better suited to someone who is busy and just wants to get healthy food on the table quick without a ton of fuss. Each meal plan has a full grocery list (such a time saver!) and instructions for make ahead meal prep to save time throughout the week. I love that part! I have had some books before that gave awesome meal plans but required making complicated dishes for breakfast lunch and dinner - I just don't have time for that!
If you're interested in a program to set you up for long term health, just a few good clean recipes, or have some food intolerances that you are trying to work out, I would give this book a try!
Wen I start reading the reviews for this book I got the impression that was only for women. But isn’t it’s for anyone who wants to improve quality of life. The first dish that I cook I couldn’t believe myself all good it was and it’s was also good for my body. I was tired of all the same diets for eating every 3 hours chicken and rice or chicken and salad or chicken or whatever and I was sick and tired and I need to change my life. I’m not at Chef but this book make me very good in the kitchen I can even bake now easy recipes to follow I am European and I have a lot of work translating the ingredients but that’s was the only hard task ! Thank you for this book it was amazing work. the pantry list help a lot It was a deal maker. And so far 32 pounds lost incredible energy, skin looks amazing the collagen peptides are really good at everything that you guys wrote was good I am improving to my lifestyle I’m happy full of energy and waiting for a new book from you guys.
This book is amazing! I have made several of the recipes and love every single one (Apple-Chicken Skillet pictured 🤤) and so does my husband! They are easy to make, use ingredients that are affordable, and available at your local grocer/farmers market. With a stocked kitchen there isn’t much you won’t already have, which means not spending extra money just to cook healthy. I am really loving feeling satisfied after every meal and especially enjoying eating more and healthy foods while doing it. The kettlebell workouts are also fun and challenging 💪🏻 and modifiable to ALL skill levels. Additionally, only having to use one piece of equipment to get a total body workout saves money. I have learned A LOT about nutrition, hormones, and symptoms that the body portrays in response to poor quality food choices from this book. We all have the capability to change what we eat and how we move our bodies in order to promote wellness and ward off disease. This book WILL help you get on track, stay on track, and help you feel empowered while doing it...The 4x4 is an excellent place to start. Buy the book, listen to the podcast (Well-Fed Women), follow on instagram (coconutsandkettlebells), and join in the movement of ditching the ‘diet fads’ and getting women back to health! Are you a Butter lover or a Bread lover? You’ve gotta read the book to find out! There’s a reason this book has consistently been the #1 new release!
Noelle and Stef are great! This book is approachable, practical and in depth. Yes, it's a cookbook and a fitness book (and I would buy just for these 2 pieces!), but it goes one step further... these girls hold your hand in a 4-week program as you figure out the best food and fitness plan for you. BONUS: amazing food photos and easy-to-follow fitness demo photos. A great resource for anyone looking to improve their health!
If you feel like your head is spinning from all of the diet dogma, get this book! This is not a “diet” book and if you’re looking for health gimmicks, you won’t find any here. Just nuanced, balanced thoughts from some smart women. Amazing recipes, easy to follow (and scale) workouts, and much-needed voices of reason in terms of a healthy approach to nutrition.
I love anything Nicole and Stefani related, they make my soul feel lighter and more powerful at the same time. This book is filled with their message of loving your body and working with your body to love and nourish it in all the best ways. The layout is beautiful and easy to read along with, the pictures are stunning, and the information is well researched and easily understandable. The book is full of information on nutrition, macros, calorie intake, overcoming diet rules, and how to eat more intuitively, along with easy to follow meal plans, recipes and even workouts!! This book has everything! Check out The Well Fed Women Podcast too if you haven’t yet, it’s a great way to start your Tuesdays!!
I really love this book as a cookbook. The information the in the beginning is helpful but since I listen to their podcast I had heard most of it before. Think of it like a primer on how food works and healthy ways to think about eating and health. Their recipes are awesome! My husband is a trained chef and we both love the food. I have shared the gummy bears with friends and family and everyone raves about them. Since I have a foundation in cooking I usually make a recipie once and then use it for inspiration to mix it up. It is so hard to find simple delicious recipient that are healthy. It’s like most people just think of healthy food as the basic building blocks and never do anything creative with it. For example, bread is just water, wheat, and salt. If you just take those things and cook them together in a skillet it’s not very exciting. But you can also use those same things to make bread. Add butter and make croissants. Then think about acorn squash and how creative most people are with that. No wonder healthy food is viewed as boring!
Love these two ladies. Found them and started listening to their podcast. As soon as they announced they were writing a book, I couldn’t wait to purchase and support their voices. So happy that these two are doing what they’re doing and spreading the message they have to share! It’s so important for us to hear what they have to say - taking care of ourselves fully, nourishing our mind/body/spirit, and finding a way to eat for life instead of the continual diet talk most people hear.
Noelle and Stefani are truly two voices of reason in the crazy world of health and fitness. They embrace eating more food, not less, and that was so eye-opening to me when I first heard their podcast earlier this year. I am happy to support their work by buying the book.
I've been following the authors' podcast "Well-Fed Women" for the past 3 years and I was very excited to hear that they were releasing a cookbook. I have a background in adopting a more traditional food diet (i.e. bone broth, grass fed meat and dairy, and animal fats, fermented foods) after experiencing some health issues. I love that their focus has transitioned from a strict paleo diet to one that is more intuitive to your body. I had suspected that I had an intolerance to cow dairy and I was on a big sugar train, so when the book came out, I used it as a chance to eliminate some more common inflammatory foods and try to be more intentional about the quality of food I was eating.
I have a really hard time following a (more than everyday) strict diet, but I found the writing in the beginning chapter inspiring which I think helped me through some of my lower points for the next month. Most importantly for success: The meal plans are so straight forward and easy to prepare for. Plus, every week was slightly different for variety (the spice of life...and my sanity!). I suggest keeping post-it note bookmarks to help keep you organized on what week you're on and what meals you'll be cooking.
I highly recommend this book just for the meal planning alone if you are trying to eliminate potentially inflammatory foods, but also because the recipes are delicous. I added a picture of my favorite, the pumpkin muffins! I haven't spent as much time in the back of the book with the kettlebell workouts. I have glanced through them and they seem just as well done as the rest of the book. Cheers!
