Dan and Shyla's most important tip, saved for last is "Have fun!" I plan to do that, but before I can relax and feel confident in where I'm going and what I'm doing, I need all the detailed information I can find. Guess what? They have it! This handbook is well-organized. There are 10 chapters and 6 to 8 key points discussed in each chapter, supported by a Resource List of several important and informative websites for the chapter. This couple is so well versed in all the key issues of international travel and they continuously keep themselves abreast of the latest information. Once you read this book, you will want to connect to their website, their Facebook page, and if local, attend their several regular Meetup groups and in-person classes. It's a never ending learning experience, but start with this book!
What a great book - so easy to read and overflowing with information! These are the things travelers really need to know, from getting through customs to eating street food. I love that they have gone through all the information “out there” and add their extensive travel experience to provide us with concise suggestions. The fact that they provide specific websites for everything makes this an invaluable resource. Whether you are an experienced traveler or a first-time adventurer, this book is a must have. I bought the physical book because I love to unplug and read. That said, I don’t want to go on my trip without this resource, so I am getting the ebook as well.
This is a great, handy and concise book for prepping for a trip abroad. Read is before you start planning and you will not get stuck with poor planning. I have traveled quite a bit abroad and this book covers things I never thought of and gives websites for easy reference for more information. This will save you HOURS of research on your own and help you have that fabulous trip of a lifetime!
This book is exactly what I need for my first international travel since our entire travel structure changed after 9-11. I wasn't really concerned about my travel since I often travel within the states however after reading this, I realize I have some rather important details that I need to do right away. Again, international travel has changed so much, for example, the tip about STEP / Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. I never thought to register my travel plans with the US Embassy / Consulate. Doing the research on the crime (there's crime in paradise too!) in the proximity of my destination. I will be traveling alone so I have created my checklist from these tips. Thank you, Shyla and Dan, for not only sharing your story but such valuable and helpful information. D.Hartwell
This book is full of tips and resources to help plan your international trip—deciding where to go, what paperwork you need, flight and lodging info, how much to plan (or not plan), and lots more. It’s peppered with interesting stories from Shyla and Dan’s own travels and leaves you excited to start planning your trip. Access to the resource lists alone is worth the small purchase price!
Wild Spirit Travel offers classes on a wide range of travel topics and now they have a helpful, easy-to-read book, too! The authors have years of experience traveling the world. Their tips and advice for all travelers, both experienced and new to travel, come from this first-hand knowledge and their passion for helping others experience other countries and cultures. If you're wondering whether you need this book, just take a look at the Table of Contents. All kinds of things you really need to know -- and many you didn't even know to ask! I wish I'd had this information prior to my trips abroad. I'll definitely have an easier trip next time.
My husband and I recently took a trip to Costa Rica. This book was referred to us as a resource. It is really a wonderful book for resources. Many things I had not thought of previously. I also love that at the end of each chapter is a checklist summary of the action items from the chapter. Well thought out. I highly recommend.
Shyla and Dan are your go-to experts for travel tips. This book contains a wealth of information that is useful for all travelers, whether seasoned or traveling internationally for the first time. The resource lists at the end of each chapter are worth their weight in gold. This is a must read for anyone who loves to travel!
