NB: This is a joint review of Hard Wood and Puck Me Baby.
'Your smile is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. Your smile makes me believe that the world is a better place than I think.' ~ Puck Me Baby
Alright, it’s time for a confession . . .
I fell so far behind on my reading that I missed new books from not one but TWO of my favorite authors—Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente. *Hangs head in shame*.
But it’s okay, because I’m all caught up now, I’m head over swoony-heels in love, and excited AF. Why the excitement? Well, aside from loving Hard Wood and Puck Me Baby, it’s because Ms. Blakely and Ms. Valente are planning on releasing a book together. My inner fangirl is freaking out.
Anywho, it’s because of that, that I decided to make this a joint review. These two authors are among my favorites for similar reasons—fun, flirty banter; sexy, swoony heroes; smart, sassy heroines; love stories that are endless love, heart-racing romance and imbued with all the feels.
Take Hard Wood for example. Funny, punny name? Check. Charming, irreverent hero? Check. Likable, relatable heroine? Check. It’s an incredibly enjoyable book—light-hearted, mixing the right kind of miscommunication (yes, IMHO, there is a wrong kind in romance novels, but that’s a discussion for another time) and the right amount of honesty and bravery with a hiking cat.
I said hiking cat. In a review. That is the magic of Ms. Blakely’s writing. It’s quirky enough to be playful and different, yet real enough to be, well, real.
And it’s the same kind of magic you’ll find when you read a book by Ms. Valente, also. I’ve loved every single book of hers I have read, but her Bad Motherpuckers series has its own little place in my heart. And that little place is now stamped with the name Alexi Petrov.
You guys, if you need a lesson in how to spell deliciously chivalrous . . . here you go: A-L-E-X-I-P-E-T-R-O-V. But here’s the thing about Puck Me Baby—it’s not just Alexi that’s infinitely lovable. Amanda, too, is someone kinda irresistible. She’s sunny, funny and sometimes even punny, but her insides? They’re bruised in a heart-breaking way, and if that doesn’t make you want to wish her into reality and give her a hug then IDK, you’re probably a monster.
I kid, I kid. You’re not a monster, but you ARE missing out. Hard Wood and Puck Me Baby are two of my favorite books of 2017, and two of my favorite ever books written by two of my favorite authors. So, consider this messy confession more of a love letter if you must, but also considering one-clicking these books ASAP.
You don’t want to miss out.
