Ok. So, one book three stories. The first one titled “Poor Relations”, by Elizabeth Johns. It’s clean and the story could have been a good one. Ms. Johns has become very hit or miss for me and this was a definite miss. The characters were very wooden. Dialogue was stilted and often characters would say things that were awkward and unnecessary. When the hero kissed the heroine for the first time I felt uncomfortable because there had been no warmth or chemistry between these two. At all. I felt the same at the end of the book when they were supposed to be in love...
Second book titled “Edward and Emily”, by Heather B. Moore. So, so good! The hero has lost his older brother whom he adored and the heroine has lost her beloved Father. They grew up together but were never that close, so when they see each other again after years apart at a dinner party there is instant attraction. As they get to know each other they are able to offer mutual comfort as well as encourage each other’s passions. But the path to true love is a slow and meandering one that you will enjoy!
Third and last book titled, “A Sporting Season” by Rebecca Connolly (one of my fave authors) is also very, very good! Daphne is in pain, recovering from heartbreak and public humiliation and she’s had only two years to recover. Seeing as the Incident happened when she was a mere 16 years old, she really needed more time to recover. But she is shipped off for a London season by her Mother. She is determined to repel any man who might take an interest in her, but when she meets Jaime she has met her match. It just so happens that he is very bored by the normal young miss that a gentleman tends to meet in society, so Daphne is his type of woman. As usual, Ms. Connolly manages humor, good character development, an interesting story and emotional healing all tied up into a lovely romantic package! I highly recommend!
