Good intro to Camping with Familiar Characters
Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2019
I bought this hoping for a kid-friendly introduction to some basic camping concepts, and for that, this was right on target. The book did a great job of matter-of-factly mentioning cooking outside, sounds of nature, sleeping bags and tents. I appreciate that it didn't follow the "what was that noise? camping is scary! oh it was just XYZ, camping is fun!" formula that I saw in other books I looked at.
So for prepping kids for their first camping trip, I recommend this book, especially if they know Llama Llama and friends already. Beyond that, it's just a so-so book (which is really just a transcript and images from a TV series). It lacks the sing-songy lyrics that we loved from other Llama Llama books. Yes, as other reviewers have pointed out, it's pretty heavy-handed in the "you don't need electronics to enjoy nature" theme. My kids are looking forward to camping, so I count this as a success.
