Over the years I've bought several Amazon Basics products, and always been satisfied. This microphone continues that experience. As its name says, it's "basic." Not top of the line, but not a cheap and flimsy product either. Two things I particularly like:

-- Trivial setup. The microphone didn't need to include a CD with driver software. It's truly plug-and-play under Windows 10. Amazon took the time to work with Microsoft to make that happen: Just plug it in and Windows takes care of the rest.
-- It's packed in plain, environmentally friendly recyclable cardboard that's easy to open. No clam-shell plastic to fight with. Amazon just has to slap a shipping label on the unmarked box, and off it goes.

Bottom line: Good value for the money.

THIS MICROPHONE PLAYS RANDOM MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND.

Ok serious note, this microphone plays random music in the background even if nothing is playing in your background. I seriously think it is infected with malware. Here's the deal, I do some online gaming with buddies and they were complaining about the tv / noise in the background of my music. Only thing was, I was not playing anything. I loaded up my second computer and gave it some testing and sure enough whenever I spoke through this microphone there was music and ads playing in the background. As soon as I switched to another microphone it all went away...What the hell. STAY AWAY

Great All-purpose Microphone

I purchased this microphone because I wanted a replacement microphone to my old Turtlebeach microphone headset, and wanted to have a microphone that sat on the desk over one that is worn as a headset. I originally was looking to buy a Blueyetti microphone which all my friends (gamers) recommend for voice-chat, but did not want to spend $100+ dollars at the time.

I have found the sound quality and sensitivity of the microphone to be amazing! At the time I purchased this, it was just under ~$30 and I was expecting poor sound quality, but it has been a huge improvement over my old Turtlebeach headset. My friends have also mentioned that I sound clearer and crisper when I speak.

The microphone is adjustable within 180 degrees of upward rotation (see pictures). A nice and unexpected feature of it, is that it only uses a USB port from your computer whereas other microphones would require a USB port for power along with a "microphone in" port. It also features a mute button that changes from blue to red for un-muted and muted settings respectively.

I gave this product 5 stars because it was relatively cheap and provided higher quality sound than I had expected for its price. It is also very sensitive to my voice (I tend to speak low) so I do not need to raise my voice too loud if others are sleeping to be heard. Overall, it exceeded my expectations!

Surprising for the price

The sound quality was the big surprise. Two feet away, voice quality was very good and it will be very convenient not having to reposition the thing every time I want to use it. If you get it closer to your mouth less ambient room noise will be heard and the fidelity will improve. Stepping back in the room about 9 feet away was still quite good but it did sound more like a speakerphone mic. You can walk around the room and still talk using the Amazon mic.

If you are going to do much talking on the internet, podcasting or even skype, you need a directional microphone.
This is basic, but everything required. It is directional so there is less background noise, it has a reasonable sound, and just works via USB.
I have another bulkier mic, which is nice, but more cumbersome.
If you are just getting into broadcasting your voice or doing calls, it is perfect

Coming from a blue snowball...

This thing at its price (I paid a little over 30 dollars) makes the snowball look like garbage. It sounds just as good, if not, better than my blue snowball, it’s much much much much better at ignoring the noise around it than my snowball was. And wow! It has a mute switch! You have to pay a heck ton more to get that luxury on a blue microphone and while I’m on that, my friend who has a yeti (the blue microphone with a mute switch) preferred the sound of my microphone over his! For the price this thing went above and BEYOND my expectations. This thing is perfect for whatever you’ll need it for, streaming, discord, video calls idk! Whatever you need it for. Even music recording, it picks up my uke very nicely. :)) I have this microphone on the 13 dollar neewer microphone arm and it’s lightweight gives me comfort because I know it’ll never break the budget microphone stand anytime soon.

Nice inexpensive desktop mic for remote work

I have anywhere between 4-10 phone calls every day at work, and frequently record tutorial videos or other audio clips for marketing purposes, so the quality of my audio is pretty important. I've gone through a couple headsets with mics, but either had the mic fail or the quality just not live up to my expectations, long-term.

I was looking at springing for either a Blue Snowball or Yeti, but decided to start with the Amazon mic here to first make sure that my desk and headphone setup would work with a small desktop mic. I'm pleasantly surprised with the quality of this thing, though, and don't think I'll be moving onto a Blue unless this suddenly fails.

Pros:
- Easily accessible mute button on top
- Very light and easy to move when you want to
- Rubber tipped legs make it difficult to accidentally knock over
- Sound is clear
- Long cable

Cons:
- There's not a lot of flexibility with the legs - you can't position the mic really higher or lower, it's just kind of where it is. It might be too low for some folks if you don't mount it on an arm. I have it on my desktop in front of my keyboard, though, and my natural speaking/sitting distance works well.
- The cable isn't a standard micro USB or USB C cable, so if it's too long for you (as it was for me) you have to deal with it. This was a weird one - I was planning to swap in a short micro USB cable, because the distance between the mic and my laptop is very short, but I ended up having to cable tie it all together and hide it under a laptop stand.
- On that same note, that non-standard cable is REALLY long, so if you AREN'T putting it on an arm, you're going to be annoyed.

All in all, a good purchase and I'm looking forward to using this for many months to come.

Great improvement over laptop and webcam

This it my first "real" mic and I'm reviewing for video-conferences, not from the perspective of a professional musician or voiceover artist. The sound quality is *great* compared to a webcam or a laptop microphone. It sounds like an interview on NPR.

One downside is that it has to be relatively close to sound the best, but even far away it sounds much better than my webcam. Also, it's bigger than I expected, around the size of a short Coke can. Lastly, the built-in tripod is not too sturdy and doesn't seem like it'll last long, but it's built-in and can't be replaced.

But in spite of those negative, it's a pretty amazing microphone for the cost. I also got a pack of colorful foam covers which make it sound a little better (blocks some wind from talking).

Great when you can't have your mic right next to your face.

I use this for recording lectures, so I want nice, clear sound (though doesn't need to be pristine) and I want to not have a mic directly in front of my face in the video. I have used a couple of medium-nice microphones ($100 to 200-range, from Audio-Technica and RODE), and this one is better than either of them at picking up your voice when you're not speaking directly into it. I have the mic about 18-24 inches from my face and the sound is great -- not as pristine as speaking directly into a fancier mic, but better than my macbook's built-in mic or the mic built into the Logitech c920s webcam.

Mini Format Produces Surprising High-Quality Sound

For the price--and its good reviews--this mic seemed suspicious. That is...until. Until I set it up (yup, plug-n-play); until I booted up voice-recording software, and until I went about "mic testing" the little critter. The result was a huge "Are you kidding me!?"...when I played the voice-over track. Okay, I set up a pop filter. And, Okay, I had to zero-in a correct positioning (approximately 10" from source). But it was all in the playback. And that was clear, crisp, and clean product. Syllable for syllable. As for noise-pick-up and plosives? A minimum of Editing Clean-up ... and, voila! No problem. All for under $50? Roger that.
