Ambivalence with Atmosphere
Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2018
I LOVED the first season of this show. It has now traveled from the relatable and creative original narrative into some kind of Terry Gilliam/ David Lynch surreal television. So, let me say that Terry Gilliam is my favorite director. He is a genius and a visionary. Yet, I either LOVE or HATE his films. For example, Gilliam's Fisher King is my favorite movie, but I would have to be offered a serious amount of money to watch Time Bandits ever again. I feel this way about the episodes in this season of the Magicians. I love them as unique and beautiful art with connection, or feel I've just taken a journey into a drugged stranger's subconscious and want to get out. I definitely miss the compelling plot and character development in Season 1. I cared about the characters. I don't even know where this season is going. I loved A Life in A Day, but it takes some time to convince myself another episode is worth the effort. Yet, it's creative and special in many ways. Ambivalence.
