1.0 out of 5 starsNot secure!! Can be opened with scissors!
Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2020
Got this to hold medications and knives after my daughter had an attempted suicide. We thought it was working great for 7 months until my daughter’s boyfriend told us she can get in without the key or code!! She used a pair of scissors jammed into the key. See video! WTF!
I like the size of the safe. But buyer should keep in mind that the locking mechanism housing sticks out about an 1 1/2 inches on the inside and does not allow you to stand standard binders upright. It defeats what I really bought it for but is still usable for other thigs.
😍🤩UPDATE FROM 1 YR OF DAILY USE = ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We now own one of each size offered and use them daily for car keys, video gaming remotes, & other valuables that need to be easily accessed. The battery is still going, the key pad still looks new, the exterior is mint & these have been so incredibly reliable‼️ I was skeptical on originally gave a 3⭐️ review but have since upgraded to a 5⭐️rating after using all of these for over a year. A few friends and family members have now ordered their own and I will be getting one for my daughter’s dorm and her boyfriends apt. FYI- You do get locked out temporarily if you type the code in wrong enough times but can circumvent the lockout by using one of the two 🔑 manual keys that come with it.
—————previous review 👇🏽——— 👍🏽👍🏽🔐👌🏽 It’s OK for a cheap deterrent. I love that it is small enough to be discreet inside of a cabinet but big enough to get things in and out of with ease. Deep down, I still don’t hold confidence in the cheap feeling key pad and digital components. I will be surprised if I don’t get locked out by it at some point in time but the back up key works in the event of a dead battery or keypad failure. Despite these hang ups we own five of these now because they are so incredibly convenient to stash in a cabinet, closet, motor home, our trailers and recreational vehicles to hold cash, keys or valuables.
While this safe does technically work, it is very thin. I could likely get it open in 30minutes with a crowbar. Welding tools would make extremely short work of it. While the bolts are substantial and likely couldn't be cut or bent, the sides of the safe are very thin, and thus could be easily bent or cut. It's not the worst, but it certainly isn't up to the task of securing anything terribly important. Further, it is not fireproof at all, the sides are EXTREMELY thin, and will provide virtually no heat resistance.
Update: I decided to return this. It just seems too thin to be secured and I don't feel comfortable having my stuff in there.
I bought this to replace my smaller Honeywell that the locking mechanism broke. This one is bigger, but lighter. You can definitely tell the difference in thickness. I don't think this will hold well in a fire, so make sure you buy some fireproof bags to store your belongings.
Upon opening my new safe, I initially liked the way it looked, felt. I read the paperwork and went to open it for the first time, obviously with the key. I pushed the tab to expose the key lock and the tab broke. The little prongs that hold the tab in, were flimsy, they broke completely off. So, I no longer can use the tab cover to cover the key lock. I ended up purchasing fire resistant envelopes for the safe just in case. As this safe is not fire resistant. The shelf on the inside seems quite cheap and moves quite a bit. But, you get what you pay for. Overall, for the price, it is a decent purchase. If the tab cover was built better and had a better design to it, I would give a higher rating. But due to this flaw, I rate 3 stars.
Well, it does what it says it does, but it's kind of cheap feeling. Its more of a "protect your items from your children" safe than it is "protect your items from thieves or fire" safe. I'll rate it a solid 3, but i do have to order a more expensive more rigid higher quality safe to do what I need.
I like everything about the Amazon Basics safe but I have been unable to fine a source to duplicate my two keys. I need 4 keys and I tried all locksmiths in the DC metro area and none would be able to duplicate the key. I talked to Amazon and they would not help me by giving the name of a manufacturer that I could try to get two duplicate keys. The keys have a number on them which is useless without someone to give it to. I am at a dead end
Well it’s a nice safe. Problem is my instruction book goes from page 4 to page 9. That would be the English instructions. Don’t know if my high school French is going to be enough for this one. Just sloppy
