5.0 out of 5 starsA must for any travel experience
Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2017
My wife have and I have done considerable traveling over the past five years. During this time, we've each used a single carry on for trips long and short. We've found packing cubes a must on any trip. Simply put, they allow you to pack more clothes. Now, having said that, not all packing cubes are the same. Here's why I feel the TRIPPED Travel Gear Packing Cubes are better than others. The compression zip alleviates the back from adverse strain during the zipping process, which, with other packing cubes, causes broken zippers, broken zip straps, and torn mesh fabric. The nylon fabric used makes a HUGE difference compared to mesh and cheap fabric styles. I've gone through 3 compression bags from other manufacturers and the issue with other fabric is the stretch it gives. You want it to give a little bit then stop. This nylon fabric used in the TRIPPED travel gear packing cube is perfect. In addition, the handle has come in handy in many situations where we have to take bags in and out during customs, camping trips, etc. The positioning of where the handle is stitched into, as well as the size of the handle make a big difference down the line, and can handle wear and tear. All in all, we feel TRIPPED compression packing tubes are the best product on the market and makes your packing experience less dramatic, and handles all the issues of a long or short trip. This is a MUST buy.

1.0 out of 5 starsThese compression cubes were great for a few uses
Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2018
These compression cubes were great for a few uses. My wife and I each got a set. We ordered the Eagle Creek Specter version as well. Eagle Creek is more expensive, so I wanted to see how the two compared. However, I did not put them through any extreme testing. I simply used them at the same time when I went on a trip. Then, I used them for carrying a change of clothes in my gym bag. At no time were the bags overfilled, as they usually had only a shirt and a pair of shorts inside.

Unfortunately, after a few uses, the zipper came off the smaller packing cube at the non-compression portion of the bag. You can see that in the photo with the green portion missing its zipper. My wife's larger packing cube also had a zipper issue on the compression portion. That can be seen in the photo showing the dark zippered area separated.

I hate spending more money on the Eagle Creek set, but they're still going strong several months later. I waited a couple months since the failure of the TRIPPED bags to see if Eagle Creek would have the same issues. I can confirm they don't. I love having an option that costs half of the Eagle Creek Specter, but that doesn't do me any good when I have to replace the TRIPPED bags every couple months. If I were to buy another set of these to replace the faulty bags, then I would have spent the same amount I spent on the original Eagle Creek purchase. Then, I would likely have to buy another set a couple months down the road. Therefore, the TRIPPED bags will end up costing more than the Eagle Creek bags that are of much greater quality. Save yourself the trouble and spend more on the front end.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good. Time will tell how they hold up, but I'm optimistic!
Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2018
Color: White and GreenSize: 2PieceVerified Purchase
Preface: I will update this review after I have had a chance to use these for international travel.

As you can see in the pictures they certainly do what they claim (compress your packed clothing). Perhaps the manufacturer's claims are a little optimistic in their assessment of how much and how well it does the job, but it certainly does do the job. So it's hard to complain. For reference, in the small cube, I've packed a cycling kit (including bibs, jersey, and baselayer), three pairs of boxers, gloves, and two pairs of socks. In the larger cube, I've packed four t-shirts, a pair of jeans, and three pairs of socks. I could definitely squeeze another t-shirt in the larger one. The smaller one is packed tight.

The ballistic nylon seems very good. Time will tell how well the seams will hold up, but I'm optimistic. Frankly, I'd be surprised if these weren't identical to the Eagle Creek compression cubes (re-branded, of course), but I haven't had an opportunity to compare them side-by-side.

In reference to some other reviewers' comments, I didn't have any issues zipping up the bag. That is, I didn't get any snags. I can see how one might do that if he/she wasn't careful though.

I also found that the larger cube compressed the t-shirts really well when they were properly folded (like you would put them in a drawer) rather than rolled. That's something to keep in mind. Same with the jeans. It's difficult to really fold cycling bibs, so I kind of had to just "stuff" the smaller cubes. Just keep in mind that the way these work is similar to a space bag. They compress the clothes and expel air. If you pack them full of stuff that's already compressed then it kind of defeats the purpose. You won't have any air to expel, and your compression will be minimal. So don't think you can just stuff them completely full of stuff and still get reasonable compression. If that's your goal, then just get regular cubes and stuff them full by compressing manually, as these won't really help you. (Hopefully that makes sense.)

My first ever review, after hundreds of Amazon purchases! I just received my order of 2 sets and decided to do an experiment. Into the large cube I have: 4 tee shirts, 1 pair of jeans, 1 long sleeve (thicker) tee shirt, and a pair of shorts. I rolled everything. WOW. You have set my mind at ease about my future travels, and will be ordering more immediately!

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to LOVING these... had problems with the zipper end stitching. Company made it right immediately!
Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2018
Color: Grey/OrangeSize: 3 PieceVerified Purchase
UPDATE: This company is amazing. In less than 24hrs I got a response from the vendor (TRIPPED), with apologies and the offer to immediately replace everything. Apparently they had trouble with a new supplier and stitching. This kind of customer care is rare. I will definitely be loyal to this brand --because-- if there is a problem, you can trust them to make it right -- immediately. Tim (from TRIPPED) seemed to understand that (although a small issue) it can really be annoying to have a packing cube fail on an overseas backpacking trip! I'm really grateful for their kind and professional response. Thanks, guys!

*****************************************************************************************************************************************************
I wanted to love these. I DID love these. Briefly. Second day of my overseas trip the zipper came off. The rest of the trip TRIPPED cube functioned like a big loose pocket. So, with regret, here's my low down:

Pros: LOVE the grey/orange color combo; really like the 3 size combos sold; company founders seem like decent folk.

Cons: Really not as tough as compression cubes need to be. For compression cubes to work, it ALL comes down to the zippers. It's not going to fail anywhere else (well, maybe a poorly sewn seam here or there). So, you gotta do zippers right. Unfortunately, these zippers are not as sturdy as they need to be, and the stitching is really weak on the end runs where they can come right off!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well made quality product, at half the price as the comparable Eagle Creek. Could use some structure for better compression
Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2017
Color: White and GreenSize: 2PieceVerified Purchase
Well made quality product costing less than half the price of the comparable Eagle Creek compression cubes. It is very lightweight, and compresses down nicely when not over-packed.

Note that this is completely soft-sided (like the regular Eagle Creek compression cubes, but not the newer Structured cubes), so if you try to pack it with too many clothes, you will end up with a large bulge in the center that is almost as large as the uncompressed product. The newer Eagle Creek Pack-It Structured Cube solves this problem by adding lightweight stiff plastic inserts at the top-and-bottom -- one of which is removable and doubles as a neat folding board. This Tripped does not have the structure (or the neat folding board).

I am looking for maximum compression, so I cut two pieces of medium-weight cardboard a little smaller than the face size and put one in the bottom under the clothes and the other on top to keep the center flat (and provide a folding guide). However, I wish Tripped would include something directly as I'm sure they could find something more sophisticated than cardboard.

If/when they do, I hope they will als include some liner around the compression zipper to prevent snagging - similar to what they already do on the regular zipper. It's not a problem with regular compression, but when trying to compress extra clothes down in it would really help.

(Note -- another trick I found to get maximum compression and have the cube be flat in the middle is to insert the packed-and-compressed cube into a sealed vacuum compression travel bag and then press out the remaining air in the middle.)

3.0 out of 5 stars Better to use for backpacking/camping not regular travel- use travel cubes for that.
Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2018
Color: White and GreenSize: 2PieceVerified Purchase
Ok product. I found they will fit a lot but won’t zip to compress. I would have to pack less if I wanted to compress it. I used it for travel and most of my clothes was crushed even though I rolled them carefully. I have regular travel cubes and I think I like those better. (They don’t offer great compression- they’re regular travel zip around cubes).
These packing cubes don’t zip open completely, so putting things in and taking things out is a pain imo. I would use this product if I were camping or backpacking with minimal clothing.
I would use regular zip around travel cubes for regular travel (easier to get in and out, can be placed in hotel drawers for easy access to clothes) and these mostly for backpacking/camping trips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality product that’s delivered as advertised!
Reviewed in the United States on December 28, 2017
Color: White and GreenSize: 2PieceVerified Purchase
I’ve purchased a few different packing cubes from other companies and these are hands down worth every penny you’ll spend. Some cubes claim to be “waterproof” but have a mesh screen to easily identify what you packed, so that’s crummy and disappointing when they arrive - not these cubes; no mesh at all so they’re not letting water in that easily. The larger one is bigger than the REI Medium cube and I was able to skivy roll three long sleeves with plenty of room to spare. I’d like the option to purchase individual sizes or maybe offer a mix and match (two large cubes) - I’m in the military so I bought these to ease the frustration of living out of a duffle bag for field exercises or deployments. I’d use the larger cubes more than the smaller ones and if I order as many as I need, I’ll have a bunch of small cubes floating around. The material and craftsmanship is top notch, but the more you stuff in the bags, the more challenging it can be to zip up so don’t cram your entire dresser drawer in one cube. I’m a fan of originality but REI did put a sample card of what could be stored in each size cube they sell to give the customer an idea of what can be packed. Overall, it’s a solid product; not disappointed and I’d recommend to anyone looking for packing cubes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don’t Let That Wife of a Pilot Fool You
Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2021
Color: White and GreenSize: 2PieceVerified Purchase
Don’t trust these “compression” bags. The don’t save that much room and even the large doesn’t hold very much. I’m a retired airline employee and do a lot of traveling with one roller bag and a personal item. I’m always looking for products that will make travel easier. Saw a You Tube video by an individual whose claim to fame is she’s a pilot’s wife. She “swears by” these compression cubes, claiming they will save you space in your luggage. They don’t. I put two t-shirts and a very light weight blouse in the smaller bag. Struggled to close the “compression” zipper for several minutes. The zipper kept getting caught in the the bag’s fabric. When I got it zipped, there was no appreciable difference in the space taken up by the garments in my bag. The compression was all on the sides with a a 4 inch ridge in the center. What I ended up with was a hard brick. Those garments, if packed on their own, would naturally compress in the suitcase and shift to conform to other items you pack. Gonna go back to my tried and true gallon size zip-lock baggies. You can buy a whole box of them for a fraction of what these things cost. I’ve used them as home-made compression bags for years. I’m really glad I only ordered the two piece set to give this product a try. I’ll find a use for them, but not as a space saving product. Live and learn.

I like these better than my Eagle Creek compression bags as these seem much more durable. I like that my clothes don't accidentally get zipped into the zipper. Ignore the idiots that claim these don't help compress because they clearly don't understand how these work. They clearly make more room in your bag not to mention make it easier to find what you are looking for in your bag which is a big deal when you are on an extended trip/vacation.
