I have been doing yoga off and on for over fifty years. The last 3 years I have been fighting bone cancer. The treatments and medications have taken there toll. I wanted to get stronger, so I returned back to yoga. Using the book to choose what I can do at my speed and endurance will be a great help.
Yoga is NOT a religion! One may find their own spirituality in their journey towards Enlightenment; if they perform practices like meditation.
Yoga doesn't "give" per se, you get what you put in to it. Asanas are but a small part of Yoga; Yoga is a daily mind-body-spirit practice.
Tadasana, Mountain Pose, should be the first pose in the book as it sets up a persons foundation & balance; the essence of all yoga poses. One must come into and out of asanas safely and correctly using muscle activation; core strength; subtle energy, mindfulness and their Breath!
Check completeness, correctness of reasons for doing asanas, benefits of asanas, organs and parts of body asanas affect or work on, as well as those who shouldn't do them.
