A 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ RIVETING STORY!!
Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2018
This is a story of survival, of seeking the truth and living with the lies - the subject matter is timely: child abuse, domestic violence and mental illness. Caroline has written these story lines in a way that affect each other.
The reader can sympathize with DI Amy Winter- the trauma she endured at such a young age and how that affects her as an adult. Caroline's characters come to life and you care about them...Amy, Paddy, Molly, Pike, Dougie and Hermione. You even care about the villain - Lillian - she is such a hate-filled and manipulative woman - she has no conscience. These characters have depth and emotion. Truth and Lies is an amazing story that will stay with you long after you've finished reading it!! It's full of suspense and a roller coaster of twists and turns. I could not put it down - I couldn't go to sleep - I HAD to finish it and I'm glad I did!
Truth and Lies hits the ground running from the very beginning to the end! It begins with Poppy witnessing the murder of her sister, Sally-Ann. As Amy becomes an adult, she starts remembering events from her childhood and begins her search for the truth - whether she likes what she finds or not.
DC Paddy Bryne is Amy's co-worker; he has a secret he is ashamed to talk about. When he finally tells Amy - he knows what he must do for his own safety and sanity!
I loved reading Poppy's back story - it explains a lot of her personality.
In the end, Amy accepts who she is and comes to terms with her past. Paddy reaches a point where he knows what he must do if he wants to be happy.
Truth and Lies is a heart-pounding, gut-wrenching story. As a HUGE fan of Caroline's books, I look forward to reading more of DI Amy Winter!
BRAVO, Caroline!! I'm in "book heaven"!!!
