I admit that self-help books have become a thing for me lately, but I don't read them randomly. I try my hardest to find the ones I actually need, that I actually think have a chance at helping me, and on that front, this book really blew me away!!! I got it because there is one specific thing I am trying so hard to change in life, and granted, I've managed a little, but I've known for quite some time that fear is what holds me back. Fear of failure. Fear of all the other times I've failed. Fear that this time if I start again, and then stop, it will be the straw that breaks the camel's back, and I'll never find the courage to get started again.
Every day I wake up knowing this one thing needs to change. And every day I face that change, valiantly, and I tell myself I'm going to...hm. And the next thing I know I'm doing everything else in my life that has nothing to do with changing myself. I clean my house. I reply to every person with an email in my inbox. I clean my house again. I decide that I REALLY need to get signed up for that one thing I wasn't really interested in, but now I am, because it's, um, a good idea?
So when I say that I feel, SO strongly, that this book gave me the tools I need to finally stop procrastinating, and finally focus, and finally change my life...I really mean it. The plan in THIS book is actually doable. It's slow, meaning not weeks, not months, but years, and do I think I can finally manage my changes if I have years? Yes I do! But while lasting change actually does take that long, progress starts now, today, and that is a really great feeling.
I just can't possibly recommend this book enough. Feeling overwhelmed? Afraid of failure like I am? No idea how to get started? This book lays everything out in an easily understood format, that ultimately left me with the idea that I can do this. I can FINALLY do this. This isn't a book that expects you to have an epiphany, and wake up the next day a brand-new person, because news flash: that isn't how it happens. I know, I've been there.
This is a book that offers a slow, realistic plan that will lead to permanent change, and I absolutely recommend it to anyone who knows they need that change, but don't know how to manage it. It was a wonderful read!!!
