For more than a decade I have been a consistent Amazon buyer… mostly of new and very rarely refurbished stuff. The previous used product was never disappointing. I cannot say the same for the recently purchased HP Envy photo 7858 printer. During my less than 2 week ownership, this item was just short of a nightmare. It printed black copy as was expected. After that, it was all downhill. Printing photos in B&W always had telltale markings and most were more grainy; in color it never would translate that of the original item; regardless of the size selected for photos the outcome was always a guess what would show up on the receiving arm.
A rep, Stacey, for National Warranty Service confessed she could only read the instructions over the phone which was quite confusing. However she did email a set of cut and paste instructions that were simply too hard to understand. As she promised, I received 2 new ink cartridges to replace the ones shipped with the printer. When I replaced the cartridges, the LCD screen informed me that … "the replacements were not recognized by the printer!!" Btw, all 4 were labeled 64, Tricolor (2) and Black (2). I interchanged every possible couple only to no avail. Both sets are being returned with printer. Literally I used more than 20 sheets of photo paper… not one of them duplicated, even closely, to the original.
I might add, two business associates and owners of similar HP printers attempted to correct the flaws. They were just as disappointed. The whole scenario was pretty regretful. I really liked the printer’s look and everything the item was supposed to do. Maybe next time? In the mean time, thank you for your attention to this HP Envy 7858 Printer matter. For the first time I was apprehensive about purchasing another refurbished item, particularly a printer. It was something I had to speak about as well as return.
I will say it was refreshing to speak with an Amazon rep, Bella, regarding my unfortunate encounter. She was quite congenial, empathetic and very reassuring with her concern throughout our conversation. She understood my disappointment and reassured me that the worst was over while restoring my confidence in buying Amazon product in the future.
P.S. Envy Photo printer and its accessories are being returned, via UPS to the designated location as I am typing.
