Just a few fixes and this would be 5 stars.

Good premise, good start, with likable, responsible characters. But do ALL professional college graduates not have a vocabulary sufficient enough to describe a situation, or do they all just fall back on Hollywood swear words? It's as if the level of emotions is expressed by the level of vulgar name calling. I especially disliked that the main character expresses a relationship with God, but still uses all the profanity of "bad" guys. Mr. Russell, please use good writing skills and don't fall back on those shallow shortcuts. Also, enough with the inner-angst drawn-out explanations of how people reason through a crisis. We're alive, we get it! Move on. Lastly, please get a better editor. The flubs are distracting. That said, I'll buy the next installment and hope for the best. I do like the teachable attitudes of the peripheral characters and their resourcefulness. Finally, I guess I will never hike the AT without multiple weapons and never enter the woods without a BIG knife!
