Basically same as older marathon

This is our fourth britax carseat. We have two of the older Marathons from 2014 and 2016. This carseat has all the same features those have. Basically everything except the new click-tight system. I am experienced with installing them the old way so I didn't feel that justified spending a lot more. These are very sturdy carseats. They weigh a lot. But they are easy to install with latch either rear-facing or forward facing. It is difficult to close the built-in lockoff for the seatbelt. This is a common problem with britax carseats in general-even the infant one I own. I do NOT recommend using this for an infant under 22 lbs. If they weigh under 22 lbs you are supposed to use a positioning pillow, which is provided, for them to sit on. The problem is it raises them up and then the crotch strap isn't long enough to accomodate that. So the straps don't fit right. I tried this with my ten month old. It "might" work on a smaller baby, but as a mom of 4, just get an infant carseat. You will use it for a year and this carseat will them last them until it expires. I have not had any fit problems when I do not use the positioning pillow with children 1-6 years old. It is compact rear-facing so the seat in front of it doesn't need to be pushed forward usually. I will say, they are a pain to clean. The pad has to be washed by hand and you have to take the whole thing apart. Nightmare every time kids pee in it. Or vomit. etc... But thats common with carseats. I obviously liked this enough to keep buying it again so it's a good seat in general.

Not my first rodeo but...

I have installed at least 7 different car seats through the years (4 children ages 20 months-14) and this is the first car seat I found extremely difficult to install. I figured since I was not a first timer at this that I would be able to do it as understandably car seats can be confusing, but despite reading the instruction and feeling confident, I was unable to adjust the first two straps I was supposed to loosen (lower anchors & crotch strap). They wouldn’t budge, at all. My fingers hurt, my hand hurt. 5 minutes in I said out loud, “nope, nope, nope,” and put back in box and out on front porch. It’s as heavy as everyone who commented said it is.
I was initially comforted by how solid it’s made but what’s the point if it’s so difficult to install. I had planned on leaving it in one vehicle as suggested by some, but in the event that my husband or someone else had to move it I know they’d be unable to do it. My current Graco is super easy to install and move from one vehicle to another.
I had high hopes for the pricepoint but the car seat seems to need WD-40.

The chair that I received, arrived a day late in a beat up box. There are discolorations on the sides(pictured above) and suspicious grey padding on the back that appears to have peeled. After failed attempts to recline the chair I noticed a defect underneath the base(side by side comparison pictured above). I am sending it back for a replacement. *will do an update later*

My granddaughter loves the chair. My new chair arrived w/ similar discoloration and peeling(I'm guessing this how the chair is made). Padding is nice and soft. I would suggest, that you consider the chairs dimension if pairing it with another carseat. I have a midsize car and it's a hassle getting to the buckle when fastening my booster seat in.

Pleased with this car seat it is very sturdy and priced well. I like the design, and the recline feature. I would have liked it to have better newborn support or more padding. Also the car seat is pretty wide, so if you have a compact car you might want to take that into consideration, but overall a great car seat.

Quality wise seems great. I just think the rear facing position should allow a more reclined option. It makes it hard to get your child inside.

watch youtube videos for installation, the instructions are as always so unclear/ once we have secured it, feels tight. the baby seems to like it. does not fit well in a small size sedan - we have a Honda civic.

I gave this four stars instead of five only because my 14 month old daughter hates being in this. Despite it being uncomfortable for her to be in. It is very easy to install. But it isn't a good option for families whom travel excessively.

I am a little disappointed with the color of the car seat. In the picture it looks purple, in real life it is not purple but more of a plum/maroon.

This is a good car seat all around. It fits kind of weird in the back of my husbands truck for some reason so we had to turn it around but in other cars was fine. We use this mostly for travel because it’s so easy to swap in and out.
