I am
5.0 out of 5 starsPlease, Ms. Regan, get to writing the next in the series.
Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2018
I just finished The Girl with No Name and again, Lisa Regan got me. I loved this book. I think I might have liked it better than the first in the series and that’s no easy task because I loved The Vanishing Girls too.
I admit it. I’m too emotionally attached to Josie Quinn. I feel everything she feels even when she isn’t expressing her feelings. She’s such a strong character and so well fleshed out, I feel like she’s a real person. This book really pulled at my heartstrings. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I’m overwhelmed and ruined after reading this.
Lisa did a wonderful job of weaving the plot in a way that kept me from being able to guess what would happen next. I was on the edge of my seat, flipping pages rapidly to see if my guesses were correct.
As far as happy endings go, this book has one, kind of. I can’t say much without giving something away, but I will point out some of the things I loved about this book.
I love the relationship between Josie and Trinity. What a dynamic pair. Their relationship really bumps this story into overdrive for me. The same is true for their interactions in The Vanishing Girls.
I love the relationship between Josie and Noah. I hope Noah gets a romantic relationship in the next book. That man deserves a great woman. He’s such a great and caring guy. I love how he’s the caretaker in his relationship with Josie.
I also love the setting. I feel like I know Denton. Lisa didn’t over describe the town or the settings, but she gave enough and put the descriptions in enough (or in the right places) to help me understand the town and feel like they know it. This is important for the series since we're going to be in Denton for every book and we need to have a connection with the town.
I can’t wait for the next installment. What will Josie Quinn do next? Please, Ms. Regan, get to writing the next in the series.

3.0 out of 5 starsGo for print, not digital
Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2018
I listened this on Audible and definitely don't recommend that you go digital. The story is OK so the print version is recommended instead.
The narrator/reader read the entire book in a way that made the lead character totally unlikable. Tone of voice is critical and in every conversation she sounded angry, accusatory, condescending, including to her staff who were supposed to be her partners in the investigation - this was off-putting as I don't think the author meant for the lead to be such and awful person. Also, the editing missed a significant number of mispronounced words and it was really distracting.

Bottom line, go for print.

Ok. I liked this second installment in the Josie Quinn series a lot, but there is something that really bugs me! And it is no small thing because the entire plot line springs from it! I will be vague so I don't ruin it for anyone. Why doesn't Luke just report the murders instead of covering them up??? He's a police officer, it makes no sense that he covers them up! If he would've just acted like the police officer he is, there would be no story. I get it, but that's the problem. It's why I can't give this book five stars. It is stupid. So basically we're reading a book based on an unexplained and bizarre decision that we, as readers, have to digest. It's not ever addressed as to why Luke, who was a great character in the first book, acts completely different from what we know of him. Needless to say, he's not likeable anymore. He acts like a different person altogether, and we are only led to believe that he's been through a traumatic event, so perhaps this is why he goes against his training as an officer and as a human being. It's an odd choice the author makes and it's not sold well, at least to this reader. Because of this I walk away wondering a lot..... I don't feel satiated with the ending, as Josie does not question Luke enough, on anything. As his fiancee I would certainly ask more questions. There are other things that are silly as well. It's a super convoluted plot that leaves a lot of questions unanswered as well as unexplored. Motivation as to why people do things is always big to me, and a lot of these people just don't have any motivating factors that make good sense. Sure, people are off sometimes, but there are a lot of people running around in a very small town, doing a lot of strange things, for even stranger reasons. It's a far reach, to say the very least. The suspense factor is here, I wanted to finish and get to the end. I like Josie, Noah and the overall feel of this series. I will read the third installment if there is one. But I hope it's a bit more believable. Her first one must be read first I think, or you may give up. I'm truly disappointed in the way it goes down with Luke. Maybe in the third we'll get some more answers. I'm looking forward to finding out!

Great second book to a series! Momentum was kept. Excitement was real, and the author has started doing an amazing job with recapping the important bits from book 1, for those who haven't read it in a while, or for the crazy ones who skipped book 1.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dynamic Thriller with Heavy Body Count

Lisa Regan has a knack for making her mystery thrillers such that the reader can't put them down. This book's plot moves along at a frenetic pace. It starts right out with a headline of a young person meeting an untimely death, and further that the young person was in trouble with the law. Throughout the book, we repeatedly get headliners like this. Meanwhile, Josie Quinn's fiancé mysteriously disappears, a baby is kidnapped, and a young ruthless real estate mogul comes to town wanting to build a casino in Denton. Now Chief Quinn crosses path with the mayors as she investigates this mogul, whose hit men are found dead in various moments in this book. There also is a wealthy resident in town who later arouses suspicion, and again, Chief Quinn gets warnings from the mayor about crossing paths. Twists come about suddenly, as the body count of wayward young people and hit men rises- and there are a lot of killings in this book. There is little let-up in the action, which motors on like a runaway train, all the way to its thrilling ending. And, yes, the Girl With No Name does have a name. Dare to read this thriller.

This plot was a little more convoluted than the first book in this series so it was harder to follow. It was still exciting and the ending, though bittersweet, was still satisfying. Onward to the next Josie Quinn mystery!

This was a good book with a great plot. It could have been a few chapters longer to tie up loose ends. Josie needed more conversations with the people she had closest to her (I don't want to spoil it) at the end.
Hopefully, there will be additional info on her relationships with her loved ones, again don't want to spoil it, in the next book...
Josie's attitudes and emotions about love and life kind of remind me of some one who should seek some counseling haha. I'm not sure she is mentally stable enough to be Chief of Police, but hey this is fiction right?? LOL

Recreational reading. Small town America made it seem real, with seemy characters and some just honest hardworking characters.
A little far-fetched on the serial killer idea, but ok !

This book was deep. It involves the disappearance of a lover & a baby. It seems like they will never be found and you are left on the edge of your seat as you read the many twists & turns the author takes to solve the mystery. I was entertained.

This book is well written and the storyline is interesting. Certainly many twists and turns with an unusual root cause of the crimes. Some parts were unrealistic, for which I subtracted some points. I can’t say that I took to liking Josie right away but in part, it’s my fault as I didn’t read the first book. This book works ok as a stand alone and I’ll go back and read book 1. I definitely recommend the book and I will proceed on reading the other books in the series.
