High quality fit and finish but no spinner wheels
Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2018
This 22" Premium Softside Suitcase by AmazonBasics features high quality fit and finish but sadly, no spinner wheels.
The exterior is covered in a ballistic-type, nylon canvas. There is self-welting on all edges and the corners have an additional plastic covering over the welting to protect the areas that tend to get the most wear. All exterior zippers feature oversized, metal, double pulls. There is a thick padded handle on the top and a matching padded handle on the left side of the bag. Additionally, there is a thick, plastic bin pull on the bottom of the bag so you can grab it from almost any angle on the luggage carousel or to lift it onto a luggage stand or bed. The padded handles are securely attached to the bag with large, metal rivets.
There is a metal, telescoping handle that functions smoothly. There are two, inline wheels on the back of the bag so you can pull it along side of you. The wheels have thick, rubber "tires" on them. I really wish this bag had spinner style wheels as I find them much more functional but that is my only disappointment with this bag. There is also a thick, plastic foot on the bottom of the bag so it will stand upright without falling over when you need it to. There is also thick, plastic guards on the bottom back of the bag where it would tend to get wear if rolling over bumps, etc. Finally, there is an integrated luggage tag on the back that slides in and out of a hard plastic "garage."
This is a fairly simple bag with a single, main compartment and a deep, gusseted pocket on the front. The main compartment features two, adjustable clothing retaining straps with buckles. on the side is a shallow, zippered pocket. Under the lid, you will find a zippered mesh pocket and a zippered, waterproof pocket for toiletries or wet clothing items. One nice feature is that this is an expandable bag. There is a zipper on the outside of the bag which, if unzipped, expands the capacity by 1-1 1/2". This is nice because I always come home with more stuff than I left with. ;-)
There is a clever, built-in, TSA approved lock on the side with a 3 number, owner selectable lock code. The two zipper pulls for the main compartment have tabs that fit into the lock so it cannot be unzipped when locked. Only the front pocket is not lockable.
The bag is very well made. I didn't have any other the stitching issues another reviewer encountered. It is completely lined with a dark grey fabric. All seam allowances are bound with lining fabric so the seams won't fray. There is dense, foam padding under the lining material on the sides and front of the bag. The two wheels roll smoothly. The 22" size qualifies as a carry-on for most airlines and it will fit well in the overhead compartment.
If it had spinner wheels, this would be a 5 star review. As it is, it's still an attractive, well-made, very functional bag with some very nice features.
